Where: Animal Kingdom Lodge, Savannah View Room, King bed, Kudu trail, #2235
Who: Myself and husband Andy, for the last night of our Disney wedding/honeymoon trip
When: August 12, 2002 (1 night only)
We transferred to this hotel, after our stay at the Wilderness Lodge honeymoon room, concierge level, so we noticed a lot of similarities as well as differences between the 2 resorts.
The similarities were the decor - both have those towering, natural-looking lobbies. Both have rooms that are a bit dark, but the AKL rooms were a LOT darker than the WL rooms even. We recorded ourselves on Andy's video camera every night, giving recaps, and we had to stand up in the bathroom doorway, because it was the only room with light! The only lights in the bedroom were the 2 small lamps by the bed, and one dim corner lamp.
The bathrooms were weird here - this is the only deluxe I've been in that only had one sink in the bathroom! I found it very strange, since we'd stayed at 2 others on this trip (WL and GF) and they both had large bathrooms with 2 sinks. This bathroom was kind of small. I happened to have a cold that day, and there were only 2 sheets of Kleenex left in the box, which I promptly used up. Not a big deal, but kind of inconvenient.
There weren't any robes here! Maybe it's only a concierge level thing, or maybe they just forgot to put them in the room, but I was kind of surprised to notice the absence of robes. I also missed the turndown service and nice surprises like towel animals, chocolates, roses, small cards, etc. that we got each night at the other 2 deluxe resorts.
The real reason we moved to this resort was the animals, and they did not disappoint. We had a nice view of many different varieties - wildebeest, gazelles, giraffes, zebra, cattle, pelicans. Our room was a bit close to the public viewing area, so we got a good amount of noise coming from there. The other weird thing was that, I guess since the view is the main attraction at this resort, there were often people on the balconies right next to us. It felt kind of strange, being out there, knowing that there were people on both sides of us. We were trying to be kind of quiet, but we could definitely hear them, and even see them through the balcony cracks. I'm sure it's b/c the view is the real reason why people go to this resort, but at the other resorts, we never felt like there was someone right there, on either side of us. (We had a completely private balcony at the WL, which was very nice - no one could see into our balcony).
Let me know if you have any questions! We'll try to get pictures up before too long!
Cheers!

We stayed here in July in a king/pool view room. Our bathroom area was huge and had 2 sinks. The sink area was very nice and roomy.

There are many different configurations for the King rooms at AKL. King rooms are used as handicap rooms. All King rooms are handicap accessible, but, they have slightly different layouts. Our king room had a HUGE bathroom with 2 sinks and the toilet/tub was in a separate room.

Hi,

Robes are not provided in regular rooms at any of the WDW resorts. Also, the bathrooms are all different for the king rooms at the AKL. We had a regular room in May of 2001 and our room had the two sinks outside of the toliet/shower area. In Sept of 2001 we had a king bed room which was handicapped accessiable and that bathroom was huge but it did not have a tub and only had one sink.

There is also no turndown service in the regular rooms at any of the deluxes unless specificly requested. Usually towel creatures are random at best and even more random on check-in day.

The animals are it here so yes many more people are on the balconies here. We noticed the difference between the YC and the AKL as far as when you step out on to your balcony you can see many other people on theirs.

I am glad you had a good trip overall and a good wedding/honeymoon:p Best wishes :p

Hi!
When we stayed at AKL in May, we had a bathtub and 2 sinks! We also had Towel Animals provided by Housekeeping, but I think that is luck of the draw! LOL

Glad you had an overall good time!! :) Welcome Home! :)
