We are staying at AKL in june and I left our first day open for ressies. Do you think it's possible for a guest staying at AKL to walk in? For any of the sit down restaurants? Or do I really need a ressie?

For walk-ups availability, it doesn't matter where you are staying. There are three sit down venues at AKL: Boma (buffet), Sanaa, and Jiko (Signature). My guess is that there will be availability at one of them, but you might have to wait a while or be willing to eat at an off time (late). If you want to eat somewhere specific at a specific time, I would make an ADR.

In October they were turning people away at both Boma and Jiko for dinner... including multiple people who were staying at AKL. How do I know they were staying there? Because they were very loud and annoying about it... but it didn't help them. If the restaurant is booked, then it is booked.

I would make a reservation. Worst case you cancel. Saana might have a walkup but I wouldn't rely on it.

You might have some pull if you are staying AKL club level, otherwise you have just as much of a chance as anyone else.

Your best bet is to either make an ADR in advance or show up at the restaurant between 4:45 and 5pm.

Bummer, that's what I figured. I have ressies for the other days, I was trying to be flexible the first day.
Thanks everyone.
