I just recieved a call from Disney regarding my August 5 - 7 AKL reservation. The want to relocate me to either SSR or the Yacht Club. What should I do? Should I demand a monorail resort? It seems most everyone else was able to get one. Any help would be appreciated.

Yacht Club. The closeness to Epcot would be the deciding factor.

I would take the YC, it would give you access to Stormalong Bay if your family likes to swim. You would have 2 queens and probably a daybed.

SSR is kind of remote. If they are giving you a 1 bedroom, you would have a king bed and a pullout sofa.

I would first request a monorail resort - if none are available the Wilderness Lodge is a nice option - If you have to choose between YC and SSR - I would go with YC - it is very close to Epcot AND MGM and has an awesome pool area. To be honest, the YC is a higher priced resort than AK (based on standard rooms).

If you like space on your trip, SSR 1 bdrm would be awesome - you get a master suite with your own tv, king bed, separate bath area with jacuzzi tub, and the kids would have a pull-out in the living room which has a couch, chair, it's own tv/dvd player (free dvd rentals for guests), dining area plus full kitchen and laundry area and a really nice balcony to sit on and enjoy your morning coffee or evening break before bed. We love having our own space at the end or beginning of a day away from the kids so they can rest or play. You can't do that in a hotel room.
But if you aren't going to be in your room that much, then being closer to a park, especially walking distance or monorail access is a plus.
It's your WDW vacation - they should help make you comfortable and happy in whatever atmosphere you choose if it can't be where you originally wanted to stay.
Make sure you visit as many of the resorts as you can while there though - that's a treat in itself as they're all beautiful and unique in their own way!

I have a 9 yr son and 13 yr daughter plus wife. I am not sure. It is our first trip to disney.

My kids are 12,8 & 6. We enjoyed our stay at the BC. They LOVED the pool (SAB) at the YC/BC. Check out the different themes and see what one appeals to you all.

I would take the YC. You are close to Epcot and will have a great pool. You will also now have two queen beds and a day bed and staying at a higher class deluxe resort.

In my opinion the monorail shouldn't be a deciding factor since it wasn't in the equation beforehand. It stinks having to switch your resort prior to your trip.

If the thought of some extra space, a full kitchen, a laundry and a jacuzzi sound good to you go for SSR...if you want more of a hotel setting go with the YC...it is awesome. At the ages your kids are now I think they would be WAY more impressed with StormAlong Bay than staying at a monorail resort., plus you will have rapid access to MGM AND Epcot. If you have toddlers and babies the convienence of the monorail to the MK is great, but now that our kids are older we MUCH prefer the Epcot resorts.

Ditto the YC - for the kids' ages. If it's only 2 nights, you could forgo the kitchen probably, eh? Plus they'd probably put you in a studio?
You'll like the proximity to EPCOT. Kids are old enough that MK won't be the top attraction. Mine are 8 and 10, and MK is something we go to to hit 2 rides or so, then leave, but they have always loved EPCOT the best (since they were 2 and 4, they love that park the best, probably since we as parents enjoy it).

Another vote for YC, it's very centrally located and the pool is a lot of fun. Plus, the convenience of direct transportation to MGM and walking to EPCOT is great.

YC! If this is your first trip, you definitely want the magic. I'm sure Sarratoga is nice, but the theming of the hotel makes a wonderful memory. Our first trip, we stayed at Grand Floridian, and I still remember the gentleman outside, dressed in early 1900's attire welcoming us, the piano player playing and the entire cast. The theming in some of the hotels can't be beat. IMO:goodvibes

This is going to be a tough choice. I really want to stay at AKL. These will be the last two days of a eight day trip and we were going to "chill" out for two days at the AKL. But I do not want to be disturbed and not enjoy it. What is the hands down best resort that I should request for relocation?

People seem to assume that when you say you were offered SSR you were offered a 1 bedroom villa (with jacuzzi, living room, etc.), but it seems to me that Disney would consider an SSR studio room to be the equivalent of an AKL room (actually, it's even bigger). Did they specifically say you'd get a villa, or are they offering a studio?

I'm curious because I'm preparing in case I get the dreaded "call" myself.

Thanks.

They offered me the SSR 1 BR villa for a discounted rate of $120. This is driving me crazy. I do not know what to do.

Most of our trips end with a stay at AKL to just relax and enjoy the resort. I was really disappointed that we couldn't do that this time. I personally don't think of the YC as a place to relax. My kids love the pool and like I said we enjoyed our stay at the BC, but I didn't find it a place to relax. SAB was way to big for me to keep an eye on all three of them. There is a lot going on over in the Epcot resort area.
The Polynesian is our family's favorite resort and I do find it relaxing at times, but the pool area can get very crowded. I personally find the GF a very relaxing resort next to the AKL.
Good luck and let us know what you decide.

From what I understand, YC is quieter than Beach Club, so that may help you "wind down" at the end of your trip. If your kids like to swim, the pool at BC/YC is great! You can walk to Epcot and take a boat to MGM so you will have a nice close proximity to parks like you did with AKL (just different parks). You will two queen beds which is nice for the kids.

SSR is close to Downtown Disney, one of the places I like to visit towards the end of my trip. Great time to get some last minute shopping and taking in the sights without going to the parks. But SSR is not "in the middle of Disney" like YC is. A 1 bedroom is going to give you a king bed in the bedroom, with a pull out sofa in the living room for the kids (not so great for the kids, but really nice for the parents ;) ) You'll have a full kitchen, in case your sick of restaurants by then. But if you're on the dining plan, you're not going to need it. BUT after a long trip, you might appreciate the washer and dryer and could do laundry from you room and come home with a bunch of clean clothes instead of mountains of stinky dirty clothes.

SSR is nice, but if it was my decision, especially considering you originally had a resort room to begin with, would be to go with YC.

I hope that helps a little.

I am going to call back tomorrow and see what other options I can possibly get and go from there
