AKL Questions

For 2 nights of our stay we have rooms booked at AKL with standard view rooms. In addition to myself, DW, DDs (3 and 5) and inlaws will be travelling. Therefore we will have 2 rooms. Should we pay the extra $80 or so dollars for a savannah view room for one of the rooms or are the public viewing areas pervasive/accessible enough? Thanks.

Public viewing areas are pervasive and accessible enough. There will be no issues seeing some animals at those locations. Put the $80 towards a great dinner at Boma or Jiko instead!

I agree with madalex. There are plenty of places in the resort where you can view the animals. And, now that you have saved the money, use it at Boma. Wonderful, wonderful food.

However, the whole point of AKL is the animals. If money is not an issue, then I highly recommend getting a Savannah View room. There is something very special about being able to see the animals from your room. When we have stayed there, we have spent a lot of time just sitting out on the balcony looking at the animals.

Regardless, you won't be disappointed either way. AKL is a fantastic resort. Enjoy!

Thanks for the feedback. If I get there and decide that we want to upgrade to a Savannah view room, is your sense that the upgrade will cost the same as if we booked that view now? (We are going in June on the cardholder's rate (not 7/4).)

When in June are you going? (If you don't mind me asking) We are also going to be at AKL in June and are from Ohio too.
You will have a blast at AKL!!!

I will disagree with the previous posters. I think the Savannah view is well worth it! Think of it from a 5 yr old's perspective: what could be cooler than zebras, wildebeest and giraffes off your balcony?!

It is really lovely to head out onto your balcony first thing in the AM (in your Pajamas or clothes, please!) to watch the animals. Yes there are public viewing areas, but having outside your room is just Way Cool! Std view is gonna get you the parking lot, which you can see anywhere (tho it is a nicely themed parking lot, nevertheless; this is Disney after all).

And one thing I recommend: take a half day or even a whole one just to enjoy the Lodge. Tons of kids activities and cool things to do and see; also the pool is well worth the time spent.

We stayed at AKL last time we visited and to my recollection, most of the rooms there are Savannah view. Have you considered asking for an upgrade when you check in? I think its possible to get one free of charge if you do it this way, but I suppose I could be wrong. You always run the risk that there won't be an available room, but AKL is HUGE and I really think most of the rooms are savannah view.

We may upgrade one of the rooms at the time of check in but trying to see if I should just go ahead and book it now. Thanks for all the insight.

(momof2OH -- We will be at AKL from 6/14 to 6/16. We are spending the first 5 days of the trip at CSR.)

I also have to disagree with the previous posters. I would not stay at AKL without a Savannah view room. If you can afford the extra money I would go ahead and get the Savannah view, you won't regret it. Pumpkinboy states the reasons why.
