AKL question

I just made a reservation at the AKL for Jan. Two standard rooms, if it is possible ...that they are connected. I have been reading about upgrades, and I´m really not that interested but my husband is sometimes reading this boards with me and he wants to know why they offer the upgrades, at what time of year, do you have to ask for them, etc?
So I told him I would ask.
Anyone knows?

I'd like to know that as well. We have stayed there twice at different times of the year and have not received any upgrades. I think it probably has to do with how full the hotel is at the time. Or maybe what mood the check in desk cm is in? LoL As for asking I have read that some people do. I don't think I ever could but if it gets you what you want more power to you I guess. AKL does have a good reputation for giving upgrades and january is kind of slow from what I hear so it's possible you may be one of the lucky ones. Good luck to you. You will love AKL. DRC will over-book the lower price (standard) rooms because they are easier to sell. Then it is up to the resort to find a room for every reservation. In order to do this some Guests will have to be upgraded. Normally the shorter your stay is the better chance for an upgrade. If the resort is only over-sold one night, then they will not upgrade someone that is staying for ten. I hope this makes sense.

Another point to add to the poster who explained about overbooking standard rooms is the fact that there are only 135 standard rooms at AKL. There are 136 pool view, 33 deluxe pool view, but 724 savannah view rooms. There is a good chance of an upgrade because there are so many more savannah view rooms. They probably factor in the fact that if you get a free upgrade it might entice you to book AKL again, but at the higher level room because "you just can't be without the view now". Plus it is some easy Disney magic and goodwill, and really doesn't hurt anyone if the room was going to sit empty anyhow.
