AKL or SSR?

DH and I are headed to Disney for 5 nights at the Yacht Club. We decided to extend our trip one night but there isn't availability at the YC, so our choices are a studio at SSR or a standard room at AKL. For those of you that have stayed at either (or both), which would you recommend and why? Thanks!

Do you like animals and exotic food? AKL.

Do you like Disney Springs and boats? SSR.

We're DVC owners at both resorts.

We prefer AKL. We like having interior hallways in case of bad weather. Food options are better at AKL, too. The Mara is one of our favorite QS places on property.

It depends on what you want to do that day... For food sorry OP SSR wins hands down as it just so easy to get to DS. If you want to stay at the resort and do nothing AKL may be a better option.. My personal opinion- it does not seem you have stayed at AKL most people need at least a 4 or 5 days to understand that resort. People who stay there a short time seem to have negative opinions like it is dark it takes a long time to get to the parks it so far away... etc. You have stayed at OKW and SSR is somewhat similar in layout but in some ways is easier as it has more themed pools with food and it is a lot faster to get to DS.

My choice would be AKL standard. We've never stayed at SSR, but we love AKL.

For our family it would be a very easy choice AKL, it is such a unique resort unlike any other. It does not take that much longer to get to the parks, if you add in the time for SSR having multiple bus stops there probably is not much of a difference. People seem to make such a big deal out of 5 minutes, whether they are talking distance from parks, resorts with multiple bus stops, walking distance from point A to point B... I am sooooo glad we do not stress out over such small stuff:)

SSR for lush, mature grounds and laid back feel. Within walking distance to Disney Springs.

AKL Jambo for a really cool lodge feel and access to a transformative feel to your vacation. Also awesome dining options, although most people tend to love the decor or hate it. The savannah while cool can feel
A bit stark.

Can't go wrong with either just depends on what you're in the mood for.

Agree completely. It's about 8.5 miles from AKL to Disney Springs. Takes 15 minutes MAX on Disney bus, usually less. It's about 7 miles from AKL to MK...about 10 minutes by Disney bus.

Yet, some here act like it's a cross-country journey to get to anywhere from AKL.

For a one night stay I would also pick AKL. As others have pointed out, it is a little out of the way, but it is very cool especially if you just want to hang out at the resort the last day.
