I just did our finaces and figured out for only $500 more we could stay at the Poly. Right now we have AKL booked - Pool view with bunk beds for December, but I need to postpone our trip to Aug 2008 for our 4th anniversary because of DH getting deployed this September. I am torn between AKL - Savannah and Poly - Garden. Never been to either resort but have seen video for both and they both look amazing. It has to be either one. Split stay wont be an opition. DH doesnt wanna do any split stays. We will be spending 3 full days at MK, 3 full days at Epcot, 1 1/2 days at AK and 1 1/2 days at MGM and 1 day for DTD and resort. And the day we arrive we will either spend it at AK or MK depending on what resort we go with. We will probably do some break times during the day since it does get VERY hot in August. The transportation to Poly from MK will be a breeze. From Epcot a lil more work since you have to take 2 monorails, but far away from MGM and AK, but that doesnt matter, cuz during the MGM and AK days we wont be taking breaks. Just Epcot and MK. We originally decided on AKL because of the theme, price and animals. We both just LOVE AK. However, I've been having my heart set on the Poly for a few years now. Also if the pirate and princess party is going on Aug 2008, we will go to it one day so it would be great access from MK to the Poly after the party is over. So with all this info, which would you pick? I am also trying to shoot for the most romantic resort out of the 2. As you can tell from my signature I have stayed at GF twice so its really hard to give up the monorail. Oh yeah it will be just me and DH.

UPDATED: DH agreed to do split stay. You can come over to this other thread and read about it and tell me what you think http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1476902

We recently changed from AKL to Polynesian. Main reason is that we spend the majority of time at MK. I've always wanted to stay at both resorts but the Polynesian is my all time favorite. Both resorts look lovely and I really don't think you could go wrong w/ either. Poly just seems to offer more w/ the monorail, larger rooms, you're closer to alot of dining options on the monorail loop. But then AKL is a unique experience. Just go with what you think you'll enjoy more. Good luck

Polynesian is a fave of our family. We also like AKL but love the Polynesian. I just wanted to point out that you do not necessarily need to take 2 monorails to get to EPCOT from the Polynesian. The Polynesian is next to the TTC. We always make the 5-7minute walk to the TTC to get the monorail directly to EPCOT. We take a bus to MGM and AK.

No question--Polynesian!

You are much closer to everything and you've got more access to dining options. Also, you can easily walk from the Poly to the TTC and catch the Epcot directly which means you do not need to change monorail lines. That's a great perk only available at the Poly.

Rooms are bigger and there's no construction, too.

We just made this same switch. We've stayed at the Poly before but it's been unafforable with the Canadian dollar. Since our dollar is nearing par with the US dollar, we decided now was the time to stay there again. We LOVE the Poly. We will do AKL another time.

We are doing 2 nights Poly, 4 nights Wonder and 3 nights WL.

Just so you know, there is no need to take 2 monorails to get to Epcot, simply walk to the TTC from the Poly using the pathway.

I'd switch it to Poly. The first reason because you want to do MK and Epcot mostly and with staying there they are really close. You can take monorail, bus or boat to both of them.

second it is really awesome there. when you are there walking around..you hear the sounds and all of disney. the boats, you see the castle at night. it really is amazing, plus you can see the fireworks from there too and you get to see the electric water pagent. id go with poly

Depending on how long your stay is, I'd pay $500 just to not have to rely on bus transportation.

$500 difference for 11 nights? I'd make that switch before they had a chance to recant! AKL is great, but you give up a lot to stay there, and it is all for the view of those animals. Don't go for AKL unless you are in a savannah room.

We loved the AKL. The Savanna view kept the kids occupied whenever we were in the room. We are early risers, so transportatiion wan not a big issue. The things I missed from the lakes Hotels, were boat transportation and the nightly fireworks. As far as the rooms they are all clean and comperable.

I'd say POLY!!! Esp. if you want romance! imagine sitting in a hammock on the beach, sipping pina coladas, watching the sun set behind the castle. Or watching wishes and the light parade. I def. think it's worth the $500 to be on the monrail if your stay is that long. you will have so many more dining options and it will be much easier to come back for breaks. I feel the layout of the Poly tends to make it a bit quieter, too, with the 3 floor longhouses instead of one latge building. Also....if you go with the Poly, request a 1st or 3rd floor room, as not all 2nd flr rooms have balconies. We love 1st floor garden view in Tahiti...quick walk to TTC and Quiet pool 5 min. walk to GCH, steps to the beach. I've never stayed at AKL, Don't think you can go wrong with either.
Thank You to your DH for all he is doing for us! I'll be praying for a safe deployment and healthy return!

Heather

I know you said DH is opposed to a split stay, but with 11 nights, maybe you could get him to think it over.
We did a Poly/AKL split stay. 4 nights at each. It really wasn't that much trouble switching resorts and it was great because it truly seemed like we got two vacations.
The Poly is great for everything that has been mentioned and if I had to pick between the two, I would chose Poly. BUT DH and my boys pick AKL. DH (also a soldier, although now National Guard reserve component) is an early riser. He thought one of the best parts of the whole trip was going on the balcony in the mornings while the rest of us slept. He says it is so peaceful. My boys loved the animals, but what really was terrific for them was the bunkbeds. After sharing a bed for 4 nights, they were so glad to have their own space and so was I (bickering ended :) ) I'm assuming you have kids since you have a bunk bed room reserved now. Of course, they love the Poly, too.
Don't you just love these sorts of hard decisions?:goodvibes:
Also--IMO, bus service for AKL is awesome. We hardly ever had to wait. It wasn't overly crowded. It was a piece of cake.

No kids here. We had to do the pool view with bunk beds cuz thats all they had left besides savannah for our original dates. But will be upgrading to savannah once the new packages comes out. Good news though. I did manage to talk DH into doing split stays. He didnt realize that Disney took care of everything. He thought we had to move our own stuff to the new resort. So thats all in another thread. You all can come and read and tell me what you think over here:
