My husband and I have been to Disney many times, but in December we are going just the two of us with no kids. We are debating between AKL and Boardwalk. Any suggestions would be great. We are sparing no expense this trip since its our first trip without the kids in over 3 years. At the Boardwalk I have read that there is no transportation to Epcot, how do you get there when World Showcase is not open yet? thanks for you r opinions and help.

You just walk over through the International Gateway. They route you down through UK and Canada into FW. Boardwalk is our favorite location - you can walk (or take a boat) to two parks. I have never stayed at AKL - though I did visit and it looks beautiful, but we like to be able to walk to some parks. Plus, the Boardwalk is fun at night, with a variety of restaurants (plus those in the BC, YC, Swan and Dolphin) and entertainment.

Boardwalk vs. AKL -

Hi - There is a boat to both EPCOT and MGM (no busses) or, as paladin said you can walk. Busses do run to the AK, MK and DTD. This whole area is great with so many dining spots and recreation choices. We have been lucky enough to have stayed at the BWI three times and think it's the best place to be. Try for the waterview rooms on 4th or 5th floors. Have a magical time!! Bob

For a December trip I would choose the Boardwalk!!! There will be a lot of Holiday activity at Epcot and you will be w/in walking distance. I think I heard they are bringing back Osborne Holiday lights this year at MGM and you will be very close to that park as well. Not to mention with just adults there will be plenty of nice places to eat w/in walking distance.

Have FUN:bounce:

International Gateway opens with the park, even though World Showcase doesn't open until a couple hours later. It is quite fun to walk through UK and Canada without a lot of people around (with the Princess Breakfast at Norway, you can actually now walk all the way to Norway if you want). Even though the stores and restaurants aren't open, seeing the structures without the mobs of people allows you to see them a little differently.

To answer the original question, as great as AKL is, I would pick Boardwalk for the location reasons suggested above and because, without kids, I would probably be spending more time in WS than we usually do.

I love AKL. It is amazing. I would not skip a chance to stay there. That being said, I also love all of the Boardwalk Hotels. When the parks close early, we either head to DTD or the Board walk.

I say split your stay. That may be easier said then done ( I'll find out in June:teeth: ) Just don't pass up the AKL. There is no other place in this world like it.

I've stayed at both resorts and it really depends what type of vacation you're planning.

If you want to feel like you're away from it all then stay at the AKL. It's a lovely resort and it has the feel of a far off place in Africa. It's a very laid back relaxing resort, there are 2 restaurants and lots of areas to animal watch. There is only bus transportation.

At the BW you're staying right next to Epcot, you can even walk to MGM if you want. The BW has lots to do right there, restaurants, night life, shopping, it's a lot of fun. You can take a boat to Epcot/MGM or walk over. The rest of the time you take a bus. We really loved the BW because although the BW is full of life once you walk to the inside/back side of the resort it's very quiet and peaceful, the best of both worlds for us.
