AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

Can anyone who is currently at AKL - Jambo House tell me what time the campfire is at? It's looks like the time changed again and I'm trying to confirm.

I keep getting conflicting answers to my question: If I am staying as a regular guest at AKL (non-DVC), can I use the pool/play area at Kidani Village? I have had a yes, no, and I don't know from three different people (two CM's and someone else not affiliated with Disney but stays at AKL). Can someone please confirm whether we can use Kidani's pools? If not, it may be the make or break point in staying at the lodge. Thanks so much!!
. I've stayed in dvc and non-dvc at jambo and have gone to kidani and used the pool. You will not have a problem.

Popped in for a flatbread on the way back to the airport after our cruise today and was SO sad to see the chicken flatbread changed  I wanted it without chicken and was so focused on that that I didn't even realize it had changed until I got it - it was not good IMO :crazy2: . So much BBQ sauce! Nothing like it used to be - very disappointed! Anyone know when that changed? I haven't been in about a year.

Just was there today and got the activity guide - it says 5:45 for Jambo and 6:45 Kidani!

Does anyone have any trip reports with Animal Kingdom Lodge stuff in it that I can read? I'm really excited about my trip, and I want to read peoples reports but I seem to always run into trip reports where people are staying at other hotels.

I don't know if you'd find it good, but my trip report is in my signature. Hope it helps.

I have recently learned that most king size bed rooms on property are for Handicap Accessibility. I don't need a HA room and would hate to take one if someone truly needs it... IS this true of AKL Jumbo house as well.

We are getting ready to plan out 2015 trip and want to make sure what to ask for... We are going Club Level and there is just the two of us...

....when we visited AKL last April, we got a king room also, which turned out to be handicap-accessible. Had I known beforehand, I may not have taken that room either...:confused3

Hadn't heard that but it makes perfect sense. The single bed affords more floor space and in turn that allows for more wheel chair accessibility.

That is probably why they can't always guarantee King beds (unless it's a booking category). They'd always book someone who needs the accessibility in to one of the rooms before someone just looking for a King bed. So you would never take one away from someone, since their priority would outweigh yours. If that makes sense.

I don't know for a fact but I suspect the cases where you can book King beds are cases where the rooms are not always handicapped accessible.

Huh. Interesting. Does the HA affect other things in the room that make them less desirable for non-handicapped? Like the shower, for example?

(We recently stayed one night - not at AKL - in a HA room where the whole bathroom flooded every time we showered. Totally unacceptable and such a dumb engineering move on that hotel's part)

I did notice that when I stayed in a HA room (cousin needed a WC accessabile room) at port orleans a few years back that there were less furnishings/decorations that might encrouch on WC room (checked out my Aunt and Uncles room during that same stay and they had more things in it, same level room), which makes total sense, but if you do not need to worry about that sort of thing you might want the disney MORE furnishings/decorations... let's face it those little touches are one of the big disney magic things we have all come to love.

....the bathroom did not have a 'shower stall' per se [the shower head was in the tub area], but the room it self was noticeably larger. Adiitionally, the door was a pocket door, which I thought was kinda neat. I didn't think one way or the other on whether the room 'displeased' (for lack of a better word) me or not. I was very happy with my pool view and the spaciousness of the room and bed...:thumbsup2

She starts them but NEVER finishes them...

....shhhhh.

I think in the DVC villas there are two different types of handicapped accessible bathrooms. Some have the roll-in shower which gets water all over the bathroom floor. Others have a bathtub with a lot of grab bars, no cabinetry under the sink, and a lot of empty space which seems wasted if you don't need to be making turns in a wheelchair.

I haven't stayed in a regular (non-DVC) room in years, so I don't know if it's the same. But I have also heard that the rooms with the king beds are the HA rooms.

Here are some photos from a 1-bedroom Club Level DVC villa in Jambo House.

Hi! I am new to this thread. Just changed our booking to AKL. Our last two trips have been to POP so we are very excited for AKL
