AKL LITE II - We're #2, but we try harder....

Morning everyone!!

Ooohhh, I'm in such a dilemma! All I can tink about is having a Savannah view room.......:(

Just to upgrade at this end is over £800 (over $1300!) whereas when I look on the US WDW site it's nowhere near that much difference. And $1300 would more than pay for our food for the whole trip, AND it wouldn't make us have a nicer room, just a nicer view.

Urgh - but I keep thinking about the animals none-the-less.

Anyone know what AKL charge to upgrade if I wait until check in? I read somewhere $10/night - but that seems awful cheap compared to over $100!!

I think it really might depend on what the booking situation is. If svanna view rooms still are available for your stay, I am sure upgrading at check in will not be a problem. But you need to be prepared to pay the difference you see between the category you have booked now and the savanna view as it is posted on the US site. In October the difference between standard view and savanna view is 70 $ per night (I think the best source for rack rates is mousesavers see here). Of course you might be lucky and they won't charge as much or even upgrade you for free. But a number of cast members here on the boards say that asking for a free upgrade will make sure you don't get one, but if you make clear that you are willing to pay, a free upgrade might still come your way. So make clear from the beginning, that you are willing to pay!! :goodvibes

I absolutely understand your thoughts! I have been happy in a pool view room twice, but seriously thought about upgrading both times! :goodvibes

...ITA - I have also had both views, and believe me, you can't lose either way....

Torsie, are you booked to go during free dining with Disney UK? When I paid the balance I asked about changing to a pool view (there was only standard and savannah available on the UK site), but they said as I had free dining I could not change the package. I have requested a non car park view though! maybe they will see it is our anniversary and upgrade us anyway!

OK, so on to my question. It has been a while since I have been to WDW so I am forgetting things! Is there a direct bus from AKL to Typhoon Lagoon? I am trying to figure out why on the transport info it says it takes 20 mins to drive there in the car and nearly double that time to get there on the bus!

Thanks.

The Downtown Disney bus picks up at Jambo, then Kidani; then stops at Typhoon Lagoon and finally DTD. So to answer your question..... sorta yes!! ;)

I hope everyone who is graced by your presence as you enter realizes what a sacrifice you made by not using your own personal door! ;)

:rotfl2:

:rotfl: Truth be known, I'm the only one who notices I'm making "my entrance"!!! :lmao:

(plus I have a feeling my personal door is locked from the outside!!!)

..actually, I found out about it by accident....

This sounds like a good story...;)

Torsie, what are you currently booked? We had pool view and it is BREATHTAKING. It's like a giant oasis outside your window. There are oodles of places to watch the animals, so you won't miss out there. :goodvibes

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I have standard booked - pool wasnt an option when I booked.

Thanks for the advice flossbolna, I will ask the price difference or something like that. But might slip in that I have decided to upgrade as it's a special trip for us, just in case lol.

Good idea requesting non car park Danauk - i'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

I read about 20-40 pages back someone had posted all the June activities from both Kidani and Jambo house. I was wondering if anyone had a JUly list or even if someone would be willing to post an August one if you are there in early August...we are heading down the 16th and would love to know what is possible for planning.
Thanks in Advance,
Amy:cheer2:

Thank you all again, it's great to belong to such a wonderful bunch of people. :grouphug: We're doing our best to move forward.

Not sure I'll be much help, but here's our May/June experience:

Here's what the CL CM's had sent to our room for Tori:

And here's what 30 bucks will get you!

Hmmmm - this may be an idea to have in the room - the cake in our room and then the zebra domes etc., in one of my friends room.

Thanks for Posting This...:goodvibes

:thumbsup2

That looks like a yummy little cake and we don't really need a huge one because its only going to be for the four of us-unless we run into someone else who is staying that week and would like some...:rolleyes1 I also read that you can get a Mickey Head Cake or a Zebra Cake (& that they only make at AKL but I haven't been able to find a photo of it on the cake thread and everytime I do a search on zebra cake I'm only getting zebra domes-apparently some people who haven't the personal zebra dome experience think they're called zebra cakes so I'm not sure what the Zebra Cake looks like or what its made of...I will just have to give them a ring...

hmmm...while I know that the zebra dome goodness is definately work it-I think I read somewhere that you can get Zebra Domes at a snack credit in the Mara...so maybe I could start a side business while I'm there... and undercut them-I'll do it for 20 bucks and as there are 4 domes in a container that would leave one for me...

Even if you had to pay for the Zebra Domes at The Mara, they're only $3.95!!! I paid about $25 extra for the use of the tray, the silverware, cloth napkins, oh and that sliver of chocolate!! :rotfl:

What is it about Disney that makes us open our wallets wide and let the money fly out?! I still can't believe I spent $40 on a picture of my 2 kids' heads superimposed on Anikan (sp?) and Obi Wan's bodies. What was I thinking?? :scared1:

Hmmm...$40 you say...hmmm I've seen those and I am very seriously thinking about doing one...ok-this gives me one month to justify this expenditure...they really are very cute...don't you think...:confused3 Anyone willing to give me a good reason that will enable me to make this purchase>

Believe it....I told myself I wasnt going to purchase the Chef Mickey picture...of course I did....we are Disney's best consumers..PARENTS:)

That's why solo/trips with friends are nice:) We can look at the pics and say...Oh thats nice....but rather spend the money on another prosecco....or...adult beverage:)

Oh I am a good enabler:)

Because Disney photo memories are the best:) And where else can you purchase and have this keepsake?

:rolleyes1How was that?

...are you familiar with the phrase: "..not minding one's own business..."??

:lmao:

No.

It's the magic......

Sometimes Google comes up with better results than the DISboard search engine. Here is a picture of a Zebra cake:

A bit later in the thread it is stated, that it tastes like a huge Zebra Dome! :goodvibes

IT TASTES LIKE A HUGE ZEBRA DOME?? :faint:
