AKL LITE II - We're #2, but we try harder....

I haven't read any recent posts over the past few days, but I will catch up soon. I wanted to post on here to ask for everyones thoughts and prayers.

My family recently discovered my 87 year old Grandma has been manipulated and taken advantage of by her niece (whom everyone in the family was close to). It's a HORRIBLE situation that has many layers, and my Grandma is an incredibly precious lady that I care for very much. The stress of the situation is enough that it is making her physically ill, which makes me worry. She is removed from the situation, and the niece is being taken care of by the law, but the whole ordeal won't be completely ending for quite sometime. It's awful and painful for everyone involved.

Please, if you have a moment, send up a prayer for my Grandma. (And her niece-she needs a lot of prayer!)

Thanks my friends. :goodvibes

Prayers for your beloved Grandma. I know you and the rest of your family are there for her. I hope that will give her comfort and strength. :grouphug:

Prayers too for the niece.

Brook - I also replied to your request for thoughts on your TR. It is so sad when someone takes advantage of another like this, particularly when that person is a family member and aging. :grouphug:

It makes me feel ill when people are mean or take advantage of the elderly

All the best thoughts and prayers for your grandmother.

Did I mention that last year at this time I was at AKL? I've been re-reading my trip report, watching my videos, feeling so happy that I got to go there and so sad that I can't be back there this year. I've decided that if the 2009 trip does not happen I will save like crazy and stay at AKL again when we go back! :thumbsup2

....ditto, 'cept my trippie STILL isn't finished.

brookelizabeth!!!! :worship: :worship: Thank you for the pictures!!! I'm down to 10 days. Whoo-Hoo!!! I'm sending a bunch of the pics to my DH, who is almost as excited as I am.

You are very welcome! :goodvibes You are SO CLOSE! Have a wonderful trip!

Hello everyone :wave2:

Welcome back! How was your trip?

Big news here in IL this morning.....OUr Governor was arrested!
But the new US President is from our state!!! :)

many things, but the whopper....trying to sell Obama's open Senate Seat to the highest bidder!

I heard about that!!!!!!!!!! Just unreal!

...yeah, like my brother....:furious: !!
[...actually they are there because my niece is in a cheering competition at WDW - GO ALEXANDRA:cheer2: !!]

Oh man, couldn't they take their wonderful Aunt Kimmar with???! But, WTG for your niece!

:rotfl2: [...we'll eat 'em in your honor...]

:lmao: Thanks for "taking one for the team". ;)

I absolutely agree with you brookelizabeth - it's my favorite time of the year. I can't buy enough decorations! We have a tiny tiny house, yet I have two full size trees :lmao: And thank you for all the pics of AKL - now I'm totally home sick ;)

You are welcome on the pictures! It was fun to post them!

We only have a very small tree right now, but it's easier that way with a toddler. I LOVE all the pictures of your house, beautiful!!!!!!!

Better and worse...all at the same time...but post away, I'd rather see them than not see them! :goodvibes

I agree exactly!

brookelizabeth, I just replied on your TR, but sending lots of good thoughts to you and your grandmother here, too!!! :grouphug: :grouphug:

Really sorry that your family has to gothrough this !!
I'll surely keep GrandMa and you all in my prayers ,

brookelizabeth -- prayers for your Grandma and family

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. :cutie: I haven't gotten any new updates on the situation, except that despite my Grandma now living with my Uncle, we are still going to most likely do Christmas at her house as we traditionally do. (The niece and her family live across the driveway on the same property!) We aren't going to let this bad situation prevent my Grandma from being in her home on the holiday. And a bunch of us will be there surrounding her in love too!

Thank you again, I truly appreciate it. :goodvibes

...oh my! It's terrible when something upsetting happens to a family member, but it's even WORSE when it's by another member of the family ~ prayers to you and your loved ones.....

Brook,

My prayers go out to your family, and your grandmother. My grandmother (deceased now) went through something similar, with my uncle, and we had to step in. It's never, ever fun....

Just popping in real quick to say "howdy". We check out tomorrow....

It's been an "interesting" trip, I'll say that. Murphy's law came into play a whole bunch of times...to the point where I'm actually considering skipping the trippie I had planned. Then....I think maybe I SHOULD do one..might be cathartic.

We made lemondade out of the lemons, for the most part, but it wasn't exactly easy at times. From bad rooms assignments (BIG shout out to Francisco at AKL/AKV customer service), to our own "ups and downs", similar to brookelizabeth's (all FIVE of us, in different ways, on different days), to an absolute GRIDLOCKED MVMCP....the hits just kept on coming.

It certainly wasn't ALL bad...and it's the first trip we've had where things went a little (OK, a LOT) less than perfect. There was certainly a lot of good, memorable family moments (oldest DD's first visit with the Yeti, DS's first trip on Splash Mountain, youngest DD's encounters with Mickey and the gang).....but there was enough "ye gods" moments that we spent some time shaking our heads. Only SOME of them were Disney's fault, and at least ONE of them (the room assignment) they fixed with gusto. Which, of course, means we're just looking forward the the trip in September even MORE....because it's gotta get better, right? RIGHT??

Sorry to hear everything was not magical, but glad to hear you kept your sense of humor! Looking forward to reading the details!

Brookelizabeth - I replied on your trip report too but I figured a  and a little pixiedust: here couldn't hurt!

Sorry to hear that you guys got sick! That's gotta be the worst. We'll still enjoy reading your trip report - take the bad with the good, right? :)

pilferk - I am sorry to read that this trip didn't live up to your dreams. :( I am also pleased to read that you were very busy making lemonade! :teeth:

Sorry your trip had some many problems, pilferk:sad2:
Hope the time flies until your next trip!

It all ended up for the best...

Thanks for the well wishes, all. It's not like the trip was a total catastrophe, just a bit more "adversity" than our typical disney jaunt. More stress, less "productivity", and some obstacles to overcome.

We did it...usually with good humor, but not always. In the end though, the last 1/2 day of our trip really left an awesome impression and we experienced some real "Disney magic" that day. Some good luck, and one GREAT cast memeber helping to overcome what could have been a reall bummer (which, FYI, was basically my fault...unintentionally). That one day has made me pretty much decide to do the TR. Jacquie, the dream maker, deserves some credit. :)

I can't wait to read it!

I can't wait to read it!

It's funny. She did something so simple.....but so generous and kind. It's probably going to sound "dumb" once everyone reads it in the TR, but it actually made me cry because I knew how important it was to the kids.

I don't want to build it up into this huge thing....but it was one of those Disney moments for us.

But those small moments are what keep us going back, aren't they? :goodvibes
