There are three savannahs at AKL. The Arusha view rooms overlook the Arusha savannah, which for some reason many people prefer and think it a 'better' savannah. Disney picked up on that, so they started charging more for those rooms.
The 'regular' savannah view rooms overlook either Sunset or Uzima savannahs. I personally don't think any one is better than the other. The difference is the variety of animals on each savannah. All three of them features giraffes and zebras, which I feel like are the big draws, so the others don't matter to me.
The other animal assortments are:
Sunset Savannah: Giraffe, Zebra, Bongo, Impala, Thompsons Gazelles, Ostrich, Ankole Cattle, Waterbuck, African crown cranes, stork and blue cranes.
Arusha Savannah: Pelicans, geese, giraffe, ankole cattle, zebra, Wildebeast, eland, gemsbok
Uzima Savannah: Giraffe, Zebra, Impala, Kudu, Bongo, Blesbok, Thompsons Gazelles
So I would never pay the extra money for the Arusha view. Sunset and Uzima are just fine for me. As far as a room request, in terms of animal viewing, it doesn't really matter where you are if you've booked a savannah view. The animals move around, so while a certain room may have a great view one day, it might not get much action the next.
I request a room close to the lobby, or close to the pool. Then you don't have to walk as far to your room.
