Hey folks

Thoughts on staying at AKL for Honeymoon please....is it worth staying Concierge? Is there a particular area of room section I should ask for??

:thumbsup2

Well, I'm leaving for AKL for my honeymoon (in two days!! sorry had to get that out of my system). We are staying concierge and booked the sunrise safari for an extra treat. I'll let you know my thoughts once we get back. Although I should warn you this will be my first venture at a deluxe resort so I really have no comparison as to the other deluxe resorts.

OMG yes! AKL is a wonderful resort for honeymoon. I like it because it is a little off the beaten track so no through traffic so to speak.

The rooms are lovely as are all the Cast Members that work there.

There's lots of things and activities to do around the resort if you feel just like "nesting" on a particular day rather than going to the parks it's a great hang out place.

They have a Health Club there with sauna and steam room and I actually had one of the best massages I've ever had on Property there :)

The pool is lovely. I love a Savannah View room so that I can watch the animals.

Concierge is one of the best I have experienced on property - the food is to die for as are the wines and cordials and the staff are good. My most favourite concierge is Wilderness Lodge in case you were wondering and I have experienced either through staying or visiting, GF, BW, Yacht and Beach and Poly LOL I still need to get myself into The Contemporary LOL

DH and I stayed at AKL for our honeymoon 1/6-1/13 and it was wonderful!!! The resort was so quiet and peaceful. All three restaurants were good especially Boma and both the pool bar and Victoria Fall's were wonderful. The rooms were beautiful and we paid for a standard room but got a Savannah view upgrade for free - very nice :goodvibes

OMG! Have an amazing time! I can't wait to hear all about it. I have stayed at AKL before and loved it. I just can't decide if I want to go all out and book Concierge or not. I guess I'm driven by the desire to do the Safari.

Thanks for the info...I have stayed at AKL before and also done Concierge at WL - it was incredible and I guess that's what is swaying me to try it at AKL.

I like the idea of an upgrade!! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the info folks - planning a Disney Honeymoon is so much fun. :wizard:

Hello all I have been lurking around here since I got engaged in DW on our first family trip on Dec 26, 2007. Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to have a DFTW, no matter how badly I want it. It isn't that I can't afford it is that the rest of the family can't afford to come. So we have decided to have our wedding where the family can be there, but are planning a Disney Honeymoon. I am rather new here and still trying to figure out what all the abbreviations are and things of that sort.

Anywhoo....what exactly is concierge and what do you get with it?

Thanks all in advance

This will be my first time staying at any concierge. From my understanding, and the animal kingdom lodge (AKL)anyway, there is food available pretty much throughout the whole day (not full meals, but enough) for "free". Which at AKL includes some samplings from their sit down restaurants in the hotel (Boma, Jiko). You have a separate check-in so you won't have to wait to check-in, which I never have had to anyway... I have heard conflicting reports on the boards as to weather all the concierge rooms are savannah view or not. Which when we booked there were no savannah rooms available, thus one more reason to upgrade ourselves to concierge to at least have a shot at it. AKL also offers the sunrise and sunset safaris only to AKL concierge guests, which was a big plus for us. The concierge staff can also help you with advanced dining reservations (they can't work miracles if a restaurant is booked, but they can set up the ressies for you).

I'm not sure if I'm missing anything, and I am definately not an expert, but if you search here on the boards or visit allears.net you can find all kinds of info.

Hope this helps. :)

Congrats our your engagement and welcome to the planning for your Disneymoon!! Tinkgrl33 has outlined the main elements of Concierge and the main plus at AKL is the ability to do the tours which are offered only to Concierge guests (at an additional cost). I've done it (by way of upgrade) at WL before and it was great.

I must admit I'd be a bit hacked off in paying for Concierge and not getting a Savannah view......

I must admit I'd be a bit hacked off in paying for Concierge and not getting a Savannah view......

No kidding?! My room was right in the corner and I did have a view of the Savannah but it wasn't great however I was really close to the concierge area and so that more than made up for my view - but I could still see the animals and everything.

Now that I am back from my honeymoon I can tell you that it was wonderful!! I absolutely loved the lodge!! We did end up getting a savannah room on the zebra trail which was my preference. There's NOTHING like waking up and while still in bed pulling back the drapes and seeing a giraffe running outside your window! I was very impressed with the lodge, it was very low key and relaxing. (I've only stayed at value and mod resorts so this was quite a change). I loved going on the sunrise safari, but I don't know about staying concierge again. It was nice and all don't get me wrong, but I don't know that it was really worth the extra money. Next time if I want the sunrise safari I will probably just book concierge for the previous night of the safari and then stay safari view the rest of the stay. If you are concerned about it being further away than other resorts, don't be! The bus system there is great and we didn't really have to wait long.

I would definately recommend this resort for a honeymoon, but it's what fit for us so you never know I guess.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks so much - so glad you had a great time!!!

I think we are going to go for this - I think we probably won't go Concierge - I don't know I can justify the expense on top of everything else.....but I'm sure it'll be amazing.
