I thought I read somewhere that you have to pay a $45 weekly fee to use the AKL workout room??? You mean I have to pay on top of the $200+ a night I'm already paying?

Say it ain't so! Anyone have the 411 on this?

Thanks
Gregg

At ALL Disney Resorts (except DVC resorts for members staying on points) there is an additional charge to use the health Club.

The cost varies from resort to resort.

thanks for the quick responses! I never realized this. Oh well, I'll get enough exercise at the parks anyway and I can always go for a jog around the resort grounds.

Hi,

My husband paid $25 for length of stay to use the Health Club at the AKL back in Sept 2001. Our length of stay was 10days.

Where did you read/hear about the $45 figure?

yeah BC was also around $30 for length of stay.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know how much it costs to use the Contemporary's exercise room? My boyfriend and I will be there for 8 nights in October and we'd like to get some cardio and weights in for fun.

Thanks!
Jenn

When I stayed in a concierge room at the YC, I was told that the health club would be free to my guests and me. When I stayed at the GF on the Grand Plan, I was also told that the health club would be free to my guests and me. Whenever I stay in a DVC resort that has a health club, since I am a DVC member, the health club is free to my guests and me. So, sometimes the health clubs do not require a fee.

In regards to the Contemporary and their recreational facility and charges, here is some info from Dreams Unlimited Travel's CR Info Website (I don't know how accurate that info is anymore, please call the CR to inquire about their current rates).

Um, not really. At the AKL, the only place to run is in the parking lot. There's really no "lawn/garden" area, and you are not allowed to run on the adjacent roadways. Trust me, my DH tried and the Mickey Cops picked him up for it. He wasn't happy about having to run in the parking lot a month before a marathon. He said due to cars and curbs it was not condusinve to good running. Too many corners made it hard on ankles and knees.

But, Gregg if you're looking for a decent place to jog, you could park at Downtown Disney and run back through the walking trails behind the golf course, which ultimately lead to OKW. Then run through OKW to the exit of that resort, turn right, you'll have Port Orleans on your left and the Treehouses ahead on your right. Keep straight on this road til you reach the end. Turn right and you're back at Downtown Disney. I am going to guess it's 2-3 miles. I've never been stopped by the Mickey police, maybe because these are less busy roads? Not sure. Anyway, you could jog through Port orleans to add extra distance. Years ago, when I was running marathons, I'd go out on the main roads too. Yes they are busy, but it was the only way to do a long run within running in circles (literally).

thanks for the info and all of the suggestions on where to run. We're staying at POR half the time and I think it'll be easier to run there.

Tiffany -- I saw the $45 on the FAQ on WDWIG, but upon further review, I think that's a FAMILY LOS fee.

Thanks again. Leaving in 8 hours!

I thought that charging for use of gym/health clubs was fairly typical in the US. I can't member the last time that I haven't had to pay extra Omni Rosen Orlando, Registry Naples, Venettian Las Vegas....

The Venettian Las Vegas charges $30 a day for the use of their facilities (although SLIGHTLY more reasonable multi-day packages are available) - very nice facilities, but are they worth that much (not sure!). So $45 for length of stay doesn't sound too bad...

Boo
(Hotels in the UK very rarely charge for use of gym/health club - the Intercontinental, Portman Squarem, London is the only place that I have been charged).

Great running at the PO Resort, it's DH's second favorite, after the Epcot resorts area.

WOW! I never knew you had to pay for the health clubs at the resorts when you are a guest. It just shows you how often I excercise. :D What other amenities do the resorts offer that there is a fee for?
