From WDW website and WDW DVC Dream book (you get one if you inquire about DVC's at WDW) - it looks like AKL will have a whole new DVC building and are turning rooms in the current AKL into DVC units.

Great for DVC'ers, but how about the rest of us ?

Will the AKL pool be over crowded with the new DVC units ?
Will the transportation now be over run with too many people ?

How many normal rooms will be left ?

Thanks !

VAK also gets a new pool and resturant so I don't think it's going to make a huge differnence in crowds.

I think where it will make a difference is in PRICE. Disney would like to be able to charge more for AK and WL, but the market hasn't let them bring those "deluxes" to the price of the Poly, YC etc..... With fewer rooms they will have less pressure to "discount" and I think pricing will go up.

DVC will have the 5th and 6th floors. The rest of the hotel will still be regular rooms.

I would expect the pool to become less crowded. DVC units offer more space than typical rooms so fewer people in total. For instance, a 2 BR DVC unit will sleep at max 9 people but takes the space of 3 deluxe rooms that had a max capacity of 15. In addition, I think few people max the units out. For instance we get a 2BR when there are 4 of us traveling and a 1BR when there are 3 of us. The 1BR takes the space of two current deluxe rooms with a capacity of 10.

There will also be a new pool for Kidani Village and an interactive water play area.

I don't know how the buses will be set up but imagine they will share.

I'm sure that once the new building is complete, crowds at the AKL will be substantial. They will add more bus service if necessary & I would think that the dedicated DVC building would have it's own stop. DVC is getting their own pool which in my opinion is much nicer than the existing pool at the AKL.

I don't know how many normal rooms will be left.....:hippie:

Thanks for the advice. I am glad there still be rooms for non-DVC'ers and the DVC'ers get a great new pool (more room at the original pool for us plain :rotfl: people)

Just under 1000 rooms will be left, I think...depending on which version of the schematics, and if there are ANY regular resort rooms left on the ends of the ostrich and giraffe trails or not.

As for overcrowding...well, the conversion is actually LOWERING the main lodge (jambo house) max capacity. 3 "bays" (aka old deluxe rooms) convert to 1 2BR lockoff. The 3 bays as deluxe rooms slept 15.....the 2BR will sleep 9. So no, I don't think you'll see much overcrowding as a result.

The new building will have it's own pool complex, and a restaurant, valet, check in desk, bell services, etc.....so I'm not sure how much impact that will really have on Jambo.

On transport....no on is quite sure what they'll do once Kidani is built. Certainly, until then, there will not be any added demand on the bus system. Once it is, it will depend on how Disney handles things. If they add more busses to the line (the sensible thing to do), I doubt you'll notice much impact there, either.
