What is the best discount rate you have ever received for a room at AKL?

Got upgraded to savanna view on arrival, did not request upgrade.

Anyone else have tips on how to upgrade from a standard at AKL

I just returned 01/15/05 and had passholder's rate of $151.00/night for a savanna view. I had heard AKL frequently gives free upgrades, but was afraid to take the chance so just went ahead and booked the savanna. I had CRO put my room requests on the ressie and when I checked in, I told the CM what I wanted and got the exact view I wanted--fourth floor, third building from the end (not too far from the elevator), looking into the Arusha savanna. It was perfect.

109 standard view for check ins from Oct through Dec 19th. I believe Thanksgiving was blacked out. It was a post card rate. We received it two years in a row in DD11's name. Weird.

I don't know. I think I was just looking happy to be there and friendly, and he says "Would you like 2 queen or a queen and bunks". I said I would like bunks for the kids (had them at WL and it worked well). He said "Would it be okay if we upgraded you to a savanna room". I said "Well if you must, then it will be okay with me, thank you".

I keep hearing that they have just so many standard view, but they are always overbooking them. Keeps the hotel full. Don't know if that is the case. I will take that magic any day

We're paying $166/night + tax April 18-24 for savannah view. That was with an e-mail code.

The best rate we got was when we were booked at POFQ and it closed for renovations. We stayed at AKL savannah view for $104/night + tax. Oh, I forgot to add that that was in October.

Now I AM peeved....
We paid an AP rate of @$175.00 per night for savannah viewtwo nights Dec 11 and 12.

The view we had was of a fenced in enclosure that was, according to CM...in case there was an emergency that they would put the animals (or the people?) in that enclosure. Since there were no emergencies...guess what? No nutting to 'view'.

Before the room was available @ 1:00 pm...I requested a different savannah than that and was told: sorry, we have NO CONTROL over what room you are assigned. It is done automatically and we cannot honor a request a checkin.

Seems mighty suspicious, considering what you all have said about being able to ask or to have been asked about preferences at checkin.

Because of the rudeness of the CMs at the desk....and the no-view, I doubt I will ever stay at AKL again. BUmmer.

I forgot about our POFQ relocate. $94 for a Sav View. I had a postcard rate for $74 at POFQ and we were upgraded to AKL for $20. $84 would have been the price for a standard room.

I so would like to stay here, but I would only do it if I had a discount for $109 a night.

A free upgrade is always nice, congrats to those of you who have gotten that.

We payed $129 per night last year in late June. Standard room but we were upgraded at check in to savannah view. I asked the CM at check in to please place us near one of the savannah overlooks in the hallway because my son was so excited about the animals and she upgraded us to savannah! It was great, but I would stay there in the future even if I only had a parking lot view, the resort is amazing!
