Staying at AKL 1/6-1/13 for our honeymoon and we would like a coffeemaker and mini fridge in our room. I see you can get these at no charge upon request. Can I request this ahead of time so it's there upon arrival??? I have medication that needs to be kept cool. Also, how do i go about requesting this??

Thanks!

There is no need to request them. All of the rooms at the moderate and deluxe resorts already have a fridge and coffee pot in them.

Only at the values do you have to request a fridge and it is not free but if you have a medical need they will give you a small one free. This doesn't apply in your case but just letting others know in case they wonder.

If you are bringing your own coffee, bring filters as they aren't supplied with the coffee maker. The free coffee they give you is prepacked in a filter.

We had both last year during Magical Beginnings. There was no need to request either as they are both provided as a standard amenity in the room. :coffee:

We stayed at AKL in Feb and I have a tip for all coffee drinkers out there who like good coffee (which WDW does not believe in, for reasons unknown). We not only took the filters, but we went to a local coffee shop and when I told them the size of the pot they made custom packs of our favorite flavor and sealed them in small "sample size" foil packs. Each time we made a pot it was just the right amount and we didn't have to mess with a scoop. It worked out so well I suggested they do it as a business catering to WDW travelers. Based on the amount of coffee discussion, I think it would be a hit.

By the way, enjoy AKL. It is an unbelievable place.

Great coffee tip, kujoman!

We will be staying at AKL next month. Can you tell me the coffee pot size? I'm going to try the same thing!

It is the standard 4 cup size.

Beware, they brew vvveeerrryyyy slowly (at least our's did). It took nearly 1/2 hour to brew a pot.

Agreed. After the first day, I learned to set it up the night before and as soon as my wife or I woke up, we started it. It worked out great.

<<cracking my knuckles>>>

Finally a post I can rant about

We stayed at the AKL in 2004 so this info may be a little old BUT the coffee pot was a HUGE fight with me and mousekeeping!
They tried to tell me at first room service brought coffee (at charge)
or I could go down to the cs and get my own. WARNING I do not look really purty without 1 cup of coffee when I open my eyes :scared1:
I pleaded, I begged... they would not give me a coffee pot in my room. SOOO on day 4 I did it... I got plenty mad enough and was going through withdrawls for my coffee... I indeed went down to the CS (passing the lobby as I went) in my PJS and slippers and my hair sticking up everywhere in search of coffee! I was rude and nasty to any CM who looked my way :rotfl: :rotfl:
That afternoon there was a coffee pot in my room :wizard:
I did not have the best experience at the AKL. I think I finally had just REACHED MY LIMIT that morning hahahahha
oh and I got the coffee pot with 1 cup ... DH and I had to share a cup the next morning :rotfl: :rotfl:

Gosh .. I sound like such a diva over this and I really am not... i just got tired of not having a coffee pot in my room :lmao:

Please bring your own coffee...the coffee provided is worse than swill. It's a 4-cup pot, so I premeasured out my coffee into snack-sized zip loc bags. You can buy 4 cup size filters, but I found that the normal 10 cup size worked just fine...you just had to squish the edges down a little bit.

You may want to bring your own creamer (unless you get some milk/creamer from the gift shop) and sweetener, if you take it. The little packets left by mousekeeping were no where near enough for me (and this is for all resorts, not just AKL.) Plus I'm foofoo and like the flavored kind :goodvibes

Enjoy your coffee on the balcony...that was the best part of our stay there last year!

Silly question but... what about tea? I'm a tea drinker, not a coffee drinker. Any tea bags in the room?

The tea was actually pretty good...Twinings, usually Earl Grey, Green Tea and English Breakfast.

If you're making tea, don't let the water go through the plastic coffee filter holder - or you'll get nasty coffee-flavored tea! My mom made me tea, and didn't remove the filter holder section on the coffee pot - I had to pour that cup down the drain!

Thanks for the info and tips! :thumbsup2

I'll be sure to take the filter thingamajig out. Don't want coffee-flavored tea. :crazy2:
(I never drink or make coffee and know nothing about coffeemakers so it's a good thing you mentioned that or I probably would have left the filter thingy in!)

You could also wash out the filter basket...depending on the coffee maker, if you try to run a coffee pot without the basket, the water sprays everywhere. I used one of the wash cloths and some dish soap I brought with me.
