AKL Buses - ok without a car?

Hello, I got an AP rate for AKL standard. Has anyone done AKL for a week without a car? When we get to the airport it is just so much easier to get on a bus line for magical express than to deal with getting the luggage, getting a car, installing the car seat and driving to disney. But I am concerned because of the remote location. Can anyone advise one way or the other. Also - does anyone know how much cabs from AKL are? I am thinking of switching to another hotel but I got a good rate and we've never stayed here before. One more thing - how's the construction going? Thanks and looking forward to the advice? We have stayed at Pop, AKL & CBR and have found AKL to have the best bussing. It is our favorite resort for so many reasons... the atmosphere, the pool area, the smell, the rooms, the animals outside our window every morning and evening. We felt like we were in Africa. It is so wonderful!

I think the construction in the main building has ended. Not much to worry about. Have fun and be sure to eat a dinner at Boma. It's yummy.

I also think AKL has the best bus service. We never get a car regardless of where we are staying. When you use Disney Transportation it just feels so much more like a vacation to me. AKL isn't THAT remote! It's about 15-20 minutes from parks (except AK). You will love AKL I promise.

We've stayed at BW, BC, CR, Poly, WL, AKL and the All-Stars and have found AKL to have the best bus transportation of all them. Buses came often at the hotel, and when leaving the parks at night. We especially liked their service from MK. We usually go in September, so don't know how it would be at a busier time of year.

Ditto on that. The longest bus ride would be to the Magic Kingdom. But if you think about it, it's the same bus ride as the one from the Contemporary to Animal Kingdom.

We stayed a week at AKL & the bussing was great! My DH was worried about how long the trips would take b4 we went & when we got back, he said the bussing was fine. It took 5 min to AK, 10 min to Epcot/MGM, & 17 min to MK. I am fine w/that. The buses came often too. No need to rent a car. I find that the theme & activities at AKL far beats staying at a monorail resort!

We stayed at AKL about 2 years ago, and the busses were great. It is a great hotel, have fun and enjoy all it it offers.

My family was at AKL March 5-9. We thought the bus service was great.

The lodge is so beautiful. I could have spent the whole vacation at the resort without going to the parks. We had a pool view room, so I can't say much about the construction. The kids also LOVED the pool.

We never have a car on property and always rely on Disney transportation. Of WL, BW, GF, Cont, and AKL, AKL had the very best bus service.

We find AKL to have the best Deluxe resort transportation! I think Disney realizes it is further away than other resorts and overcompensates for it. We never waited for more than 10 mins for a bus at AKL...after wishes at the mk is another story but i think every resorts bus line is jammed at that point!

It's really very good. If you're going to any of the theme parks, or dtd it's really simple. The only time that it gets complicated is if you were going to another resort for dinner...but then again, that would make it complicated for any of the resorts.

I'm completely impressed by these posts. Thanks for all the advice. We're looking forward to our trip. I've been to AKL for dinner at both Boma and Jiko but never stayed there. It seems like such a real resort - and like a true vacation (which I need). I am still thinking about getting a car but at least I know I can certainly do without. Thanks again! I can always count on the experts on this board! Missy
