AKL advice, please

OK, we are getting close to our trip and that means I'm getting my pre-trip gitters...I'm hoping I planned everything right!

My biggest concern is room request at AKL. We are staying concierge. I've requested non-smoking, 5th floor Arusha (sp?) Savannah.

I've heard complaints about looong walks at the AKL. Did I choose a centrally located area? My top three priorities are:

- non-smoking
- seeing as many animals as possible (of course!)
- being centrally located.

I understand the concierge lounge is on the 6th floor, is there more than one way to get there or is there only one "secret" passage.

Thanks for any tips you can provide!

You will LOVE AKL!!! We just left there Sunday and we also stayed concierge, non-smoking Arusha! (you will be on 5th or 6th if you stay concierge and if you aren't doing smoking or deluxe, I don't think you would have a problem getting 5th). Our room was fantastic!!! We had a wonderful view of the animals and there is nothing neater than to wake up, walk out to your balcony and watch the zebra, giraffe, ankole cattle, eland and wildebeest!!

I didnt think the walk was too long from our room to the elevator, but I also just enjoyed walking down the corridor by the lobby and looking over at what was going on. Between the separate parts of the wing, there are wonderful windows to look out - each view was different (the pool or the savanna) and my ds's and I just walked down the corridors to "check out" the other views, because we were in the first section, and didn't "have" to pass any of the windows!

I think if you get a room similiar to our room number (5417) you will be very pleased! We had an easy walk to the elevator - which is the entry to the concierge (you use your room key in the elevator to allow access).

We did go to check out the other viewing areas, but our favorite remains the view we had from our balcony!

Can't say enough how much we enjoyed this resort - it was truely magical!

Thanks for the response! Sounds very exciting! I can hardly wait! We are driving down from the Northeast so I'm hoping the weather cooperates, at least until we get there...then it can snow all it wants here! That and not getting the flu!

Ok. Now I'm confused. We stayed AKL concierge a few years ago. I thought that all concierge rooms were either deluxe or suites, although not all deluxe rooms were concierge.
Are you saying that some standard rooms are now concierge, as well?
