I was reading that sometimes when you add on they will give you last years points as well (depending on availability).

So, I have a Dec UY. I would not get my '09 points until December. Would I get '08 points right now? Would those be no MF's? Or would I pay MF's on current points, but they would give me '07 points? I was looking at 100 points!

Many are saying that they still have Dec UY points so if you added on now, there is a very good chance that you will get Dec 08 points.

Good luck!

There would not be any 07 points, but if available you would get points from the December, 2008 Use Year and then again in December, 2009. On all purchases made directly thru DVC your annual dues would be prorate based on when you purchase. If you purchase now, you would owe prorated 2009 dues - about 1/2 of the actual fees for the year.

Annual maintenance fees are always based on the calendar year - not on Use Year.

Enjoy! :)

:hippie::banana:I just spoke with my guide, inquiring about adding on at AKV. I also have a December use year and she said that she can get me points for 2008.

Here's the deal she offered me:

50 points $13/off per point
100 points $19/off per point
125 points $21/off per point

If you buy 100 points, you can take a small discount of $13/off per point and get a 3 day cruise.

If you buy 125 points, you can get a 4 day cruise with the same $13/off.

If you buy 200 points, you get a 7 day cruise with the same $13/off.

The cruise must be taken by December 2010.

I'm very confused......what to do....what to do....

Has anyone taken this deal???

If I added on at BLT with a Dec '09 UY, there is no way I would get any '08 points because the resort wasn't open yet? Correct?

They give you points for your current Use Year, provided those points are available for the resort you are purchasing. With a Dec UY, your current Use Year is Dec 2008. An add on purchased today (or any time prior to Dec 1, 2009) would start with Dec '08 points if those points are still available. If you purchase on/after Dec 1, 2009 and before Nov 30, 2010, your add on would start with Dec 2009 points as that would be the current UY at the time of purchase.

Dues are paid on a calendar year basis and are pro-rated for the first year from the later of your purchase date, the start of your initial UY and the occupancy date of the Unit you purchase.

When I bought into AKV in April 2008, I selected Dec 2008 as my use year in order to get the most time out of what I was buying, since the place wasn't opening until May 2009. (On a side note, it was NICE not to pay any dues until May 2009.) However, gave me a year's worth of developer points which I had to use at SSR within one year of my contract date. And I still got my Dec 2008 points at AKV. I used the developer points at SSR in March 2009 (just under the deadline) and banked my Dec 2008 points. I will use those points for my March 2010 vacation, so I feel like I'm always a year behind in my points usage. It works out well, because I'm considering using a couple years worth of points for a cruise in 2011, so I may not need to skip a year.

Sorry -- I hope I didn't confuse anyone TOO much. :)

Are they offering anything like that at BLT?

We wanted more points at AKV so we just added 100 and took the $19 off. Before the latest incentives, we had done the paperwork to buy the 100 points for $10 per point discount and 2 annual passes. The new incentives were better so we switched.

A three day cruise is too short and not of any interest to us. We already have a 7 nt booked for December 2009.

That's correct. With a December Use Year, there would be no BLT points available for use until until December, 2009 - although you would be able to borrow those points for a trip prior to December and after August.

We have a February UY. If I waited until December 2009 to add on, I assume I would get the 2009 UY points (if available), correct? Then, I would owe 2 months (Dec 2009, Jan 2010) of pro-rated MF's? Also, could I still bank those new points that late into the UY? I certainly couldn't use them within 2 months. I am contemplating a small add on (DH will say no anyways so it is probably a moot point:headache:) and I was wondering when the "best" time in the UY would be. My plan was to maybe put it on our Disney Visa for the 6 months at 0% and then pay it off with next year's tax return. I would want to buy as late as possible in the UY to do this, but I don't want any points to go to waste.

Dues are paid on a calendar year basis. Anyone who adds on on Dec 1, 2009 would pay 31 days worth of dues for 2009 (for Dec 1-31) regardless of their UY. If you added on on Nov 15, you would pay 46 days worth of dues (for Nov 15-Dec 31). If you waited until Jan 15, you would pay no 2009 dues and would pay 350 days worth of dues for 2010 (for Jan 15-Dec 31, 2010).

MS has been letting people bank the current UY points they get with an add on, even if they are past their banking deadline. They do sometimes run out of current UY points so if it gets too close to the end of your UY, you might end up missing out on a year's worth of points.

Yes, if you have a Feb Uy and add on in Dec, Disney will give you 09 points if they are still available.

MF's are based on calendar year. So, if you add on in Dec, you would pay one month of fees for 2009 for those additional points. In January, you would receive your 2010 bill for MF's on your total number of points.

As far as banking, I have heard that Disney allows you to bank those points beyond the deadline if it is a new contract, but I would contact your guide now to be sure. Tell him/her that you want to add on in Dec because you won't have the money to pay until your tax refund comes in and she what he/she says about banking points.

I know that I want to do another 50 point add on next year. My UY is June and will be doing it in April, providing I will still be able to bank the points if they are available for my UY.

Good luck!

Thank you!

That helps me plan my attack:upsidedow.

Do you have to add on at your current resort or can you add on at a diffent resort and still get the same perks? We just bought BLT in March and are looking to add on next year but would like to add AKL, is this possible or would we have to buy 160 points?

You can add on with a minimum of 25 points (cash) or 50 points (financed) at any DVC resort, providing that you title the contract in the same way. You will be given the same UY as well.

For example, my contracts are in my DH's and my name. As long as all my add ons are being done that way, we can add on through Disney easily at any resort we want. And, we would qualify for any incentives available as long as we purchase the # of points needed to qualify.

If you do add on at a different resort, you cannot combine your points 11 months out to make a reservation. If you own 160 BLT points and you add on 50 AKV points and you want to book AKV 11 months out, only your 50 AKV points can be used at that time. You can use banking and borrowing to increase the number of AKV points available to you in the 11-month window but if you needed even more points than that to make the reservation, you could not use your BLT points as well. Once you are inside the 7-month window you can combine points from different resorts to book anywhere you like.
