Akershus

We have reservations for Akershus for the Princess lunch in May. Can anyone give me a review of the meal. I'll be with my mom and stepfather. I'm a fairly adventurous eater as is my stepfather, but mom can be picky sometimes.

We were just there a couple of weeks ago and had really good food. My daughter just had the kids pizza (just your average pizza, nothing special). I had the braised lamb - is was really tasty. It was served almost like a stew, but the potatoes were on the side instead of in it. The meat was really tender and flavorful. There were 2 or 3 things that sounded good to me on the menu, but I was glad I picked what I did. Nothing seemed all that exotic. There was a pasta dish that I almost got that looked good, and a traditional Norwegian dish that looks weird, but it's really meatloaf. The desserts were ok - nothing wonderful. I would do this lunch again.

Thanks for the input. I was getting nervous after reading some other reviews. Originally, the reservations included my boyfriend, his dad and his younger brother. I don't think his brother would really enjoy it, and a 10 year boy would be too keen on the princesses either. I just really want to go, so I am dragging my mother and stepfather.

I think you'll enjoy it. I think the food sounds more weird than it actually is. I like the interior of the restaurant, it has good atmosphere and it doesn't seem really huge to me (I hate sitting at a table in the middle of a giant room, I like more of a cozy feel). It has almost the look of the castle restaurant, but not quite so grand.

Your boyfriend might like it - Jasmine shows a lot of cleavage!

We are doing this lunch on April 29. ME, DH, My MUM and DD's4 & 1.
The pictures I have seen of this restaurant it seems quite crypt like and very dark but it looks like a total princess fest which is why I booked it.
The food sounds interesting we like to try different stuff so no problems there.
Are there any particular good places to sit with regards to light and princess visits? This is our first day at WDW and I think my eldest is going to faint!
To those that have done it recently, which princesses were present?

Crypt-like? While we haven't dined there in the evening, breakfast time was lovely. The table spacing is really generous, service was great. They had "Formal Picture" taking with Belle. Snow White, Mulan, Aurora, Mary Poppins circulated the rest. ( I have more pics on my WHO DAT review.)

We've eaten here several times (both with and without princesses) I too wouldn't describe it as crypt like. Actually, in the day, the rooms can be fairly bright. As to where to sit for the best light and princesses-our last lunch there we were lucky enough to sit in the tower room and the light was wonderful. The princesses visit all the rooms the same. Really no difference. As to what room you'll sit in-the CM will pick it for you based on your ressie time. They seat each area at about the same time so that the princesses can do their rounds.

As to which princesses you'll see. We've seen Mulan, Aurora, Snow, Belle, Jasmine, Ariel, and Cinderella. We saw Ariel and Cinderella at lunch in Sept. 2004. We also saw the same Cinderella at 1900 Park Fare a few nights later and she said she remembered my DD .

We enjoy the food at Akershus. They have the best cinnamon rolls and cheesy potatoes at breakfast. We also enjoy the Norweigan food at lunch (haven't done dinner since the switch to princesses). I enjoyed our lunch there a little more than our breakfasts. It maybe because we were the last lunch ADR for that day and we were able to take all the time we wanted with our meal. But, the princesses only came around the one time. At breakfast, both times, we have felt rushed to leave.

We have ADRs for the Princess lunch @ Akershus in Oct. After looking at their lunch menu, I thought maybe I should change from lunch to breakfast ...my 2 girls will be able to find something on the kids menu, and my DH should have no problem (he is pretty adventurous when it comes to food and will at least try a few bites of any dish) ...but its myself I was worried about!!! I can be pretty picky, sometimes. But when I called, I was told there are no more breakfast spaces at all during the whole week we will be at WDW. So we are "stuck" with our lunch ADR but now I am feeling pretty good about our meal there

I went there with my DD(then 5) in 2005. We went for the princess lunch. We saw Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine, Belle, Ariel and Cinderella. The food was good; both my DD and I got a "cold-cuts" platter before our entrees. If memory serves, her's was just basic lunch meat and cheeses whereas mine had more authentic goodies. My DD still tells people, with pride that she had some of my goat cheese (it was carmelized and tasted like peanut butter!)! I think my DD just had good ol' pb&j for lunch. I had some type of salad and it was good.
It wasn't dark at all and all the princess came over, talked a few minutes with my DD, wrote in her autograph book and let us take a picture.

We really enjoyed the restaurant. I had the lamb, Mom had the meatloaf-type thing, and I forget what my step dad had. The buffet was really nice. It did have some unusual fish items, but I tried everything and liked everything (except the salmon. I do remember trying it but it is not something I like anywhere anyway). My favorite was the dessert. Everything was yummy, but I LOVED the rice dessert.

We were just there for lunch on Monday and it was really great. The "appetizer buffet" had some breads, cheeses, and deli meats as well as a number of Norwegian salads (e.g. beet and apple salad...yummy). For entrees, the kids had pasta and meatballs...nothing unusual there. DH had the "traditional something unpronounceable", which was a ground meat pattie with veggies and mashed potatoes. I had salmon on pasta with a pesto sauce. The dessert is served family style and was a sort of chocolate mousse torte, strawberry rice cream, and lingonberry cheesecake.

The girls had there photo with Belle (yellow dress!) before being seated. The princesses that circulated were: Cinderelle, Ariel (with legs!), Jasmine, and Aurora. The character interaction was very nice.

I would agree 100% we loved the setting, the buffet and the main meal and dessert was delicious.
Back in April our girls had their photo taken with Sleeping Beauty (Aurora) and princesses circulating were Snow White, Ariel, Belle (blue dress) and Cinderella.
This was definately a trip highlight for us.
