Akershus... to cancel or not to cancel...

Please promise you won't ruin my dinner there by spending the whole meal complaining the food is too weird. I hate it when I go to an ethnic restaurant and am trying to enjoy my dinner and have to listen to people saying "There's tofu in this? That's SO WEIRD! How can people eat like that?!"

Um.... I do have manners. I can assure you I wont "ruin" your dinner. Regardless if I enjoy the food or I do not enjoy the food, it is rude and inconsiderate to sit there complaining about it while other people are trying to eat. If I feel like I would be unable to stomach the food to the point that I would be complaining, I would cancel my reservations, hence my questions/post here.

As it stands, I believe I will just keep the reservation. I think the benefits of seeing the look on my kids' faces when ALL the princesses are there definitely outweigh me having to sit through a less than traditional dinner for me. I'll probably have a review of the pork or chicken when I get back :)

There is a cold buffet you can get food from and a lot of that would read as "normal" to an American palate. You can get salad, pasta salads, cheese, crackers, cold cuts, etc. there.

Then as far as entrees go, I got the roasted chicken with veggie risotto for my entree and it was amazing. I'm a really picky eater and I pretty much finished this. I was a little afraid of the food too but everyone at our table left satisfied. If you're not an adventurous eater, just don't order anything that sounds too unfamiliar to you and you should be okay.

I will also note that we had an amazing character interaction with Belle there and I wouldn't trade the memories from that dinner for ANYTHING. The other princesses were fine but the Belle was awesome and I think it was the kind of interaction with the princesses that you don't get at the other princess meals. (And you get the free pic package too, and it's only 1 TS credit each.)

we went last year and I got the kjottake (sorry about the spelling) and I did not care for it at all. However the character interaction was great so we booked it agan this year. We just went this past week and I got the grilled pork chop and it was so yoummy. It is seasoned so if you like bland food it may not appeal to you, not spicy, but lots or seasoning. I also filled up on the salad bar this time just in case and I had green leaf salad, fruit salad, and some yummy grilled marinated asparagus. DD got the kids chicken and ate lots of it and DH got the lamb stew and loved it.
I say give it a chance, if you like blander food, just fill up on the salad bar, the characters are so worth it!

I find this remark to be just as rude as when people are complaining at the table! (even if it wasn't meant as a direct comment to the OP, it still comes off as insulting)

I'm a picky eater, and while I haven't eaten at Akershus, it's menu doesn't scare me as much as some others.
Definitely look at the official menu .pdf on the Disney website. It explains the entrees much better.

The Sauteed Chicken Breast looks "normal", and it looks like the "Taste of Norway" would keep you from going hungry. The desserts look very tasty.

If you still think it will be a problem, then cancel, or switch to a different meal. You don't want to pay that much money, then not like your food.

We have picky eaters so we chose to do akershus for breakfast and still get the princesses only with traditional ammerican breakfast food. I only wish my other family members were more adventerous so I can eat other places.

Thanks. Its nice to know I wasnt the only one who was a bit offended at that remark.

Im gonna keep the reservation. Kathyyell convinced me.... the princess interaction with my kids far outweighs anything that I'll have to "endure". I'll probalby get the chicken dinner. Im sure I'll be pleasantly surprised. Even if I walk out hungry, I walk out hungry with happy kids and THATS what a first trip to Disney is all about. :thumbsup2
