I am trying to choose a character dining restaurant and it's come down to Akershus Royal Banquet Hall or Chef Mickey. Which restaurant has better food?

My husband and I love the food at Akershus and our 14 year old prefers the food at Chef Mickey's. Have no idea if that helps at all.

Akershus hands down, but we only go for breakfast. We have been to CM once for dinner and thought the characters were rushed and the food was o.k. However, I wouldn't mind trying it for breakfast sometime.

I enjoy both CM and Akershus. The big difference is in the characters that you see and the atmosphere. Akershus is a relaxed experience with several princesses and a photo. CM can be a little boistrous and Mickey and crew seem a bit rushed.:flower3:

I would vote for Akershus. I have eaten there a couple times for breakfast and we loved it. I have only done CM for dinner and the food was just ok. Also, with Akershus you could possibly get into the park early if your ADR was early.

Another vote for Akershus. Both are nice, but Akershus seemed to have a quieter more relaxed atmosphere. Chef Mickey's was a little too loud and chaotic for my taste...

Breakfast or dinner?
Breakfast I would say it's a toss up and depends mostly on the characters you want to see.

Dinner - For food I would go with Norway - we went last year and it was delicious.

Akershus for the win!

The menu has familiar items with Norwegian styling that is good while the cold buffet of salads, meats, and cheeses is a meal unto itself. In the cheese section, there is a great brown cheese that had me racking my brains trying to figure out the flavors. I broke down and asked Silje, our server, for help and learned it was carmelized goat cheese.

I've tried to find it locally but have no luck... :(

Chef Mickey's - more variety and better quality IMO.

We at Akersus in Sept and it was the worst meal of our recent memory. The meatball dish was cold on the inside, we sent it back, and it came back the same way. We have eaten at almost every TS restaurant at Disney and this ranks near the bottom for us. Granted, any place can have a bad night, but to us there is nothing at all exciting about this place

The character experience at both is good ..

That great brown cheese is called Gjetost (Ye-toast) and one of the servers last Fall told me she gets her gjetost fix at her local Publix store. We get ours online at igourmet.com (http://www.igourmet.com/search/search.asp?keywords=gjetost&search.x=14&search.y=10) since we have no Publix in our area...

I liked the food at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall better, but you have to
remember that it is Norwegian cuisine. Also, it isn't a buffet. There is a cold salad bar, but you order your entree.

But I like the characters at Chef Mickey's much better. "face" characters like the princesses are creepy.

We (Me, DH, DS6, and DS2) ate at both for dinner two weeks ago, and Akershus was our favorite, hands down. My husband rated CM as "Old Country Buffet with Characters". Now there's nothing wrong with Old Country Buffet, but I wouldn't pay $35 apiece to eat there! :scared1:

Paying that much for buffet bothers me! That's why I wanted to if the food was worth it.lol

Personally I think Akerhaus was a unique and more worthwhile experience. The princesses were calm and relaxed. The kids were not over stimulated by the atmosphere and the food was excellent. Chef Mickey’s is a Disney in your face, loud, electric place. People get up, dance around, swing napkins in the air etc and the food is just OK. We enjoyed them both but for different reasons.

Princess Breakfast at Akershus is way better than CM. You get a family style served hot breakfast (eggs, potatos, bacon) and a buffet style of fruit, breads, and the cinnamon rolls are the best. My two dds 8,5 love eating with the princesses and we have visited there every trip.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I'm going to be making reservations for Akershus. :yay:
