Akershus....easy to get ressies for feb! Is it worth the $????

I am now having second thoughts~ We booked our trip last minute and I raelly wanted Park Faire for our character meal but they are booked so I booked Ahkershus! I am Norwegian so that is part of the reason!!! Anyway I have read soooo many mxed reviews! I have a boy almost 7 and a girl almost 4! Please share!!!!

We enjoyed Akershus much better than 1900. We all enjoyed our food. My DH asked our (wonderful) waiter if the food was like he ate back home. His reply was, it wasn't even close to what his Grandmother made, so since your Norwegian?? We obviously don't know any better. Have had the salmon and last time the Kjottkake. DH felt it was by far the best food at a character meal he had ever had.

I also like if you are on the DDP it is 1TS and the photo package is included.

I cannot rave enough about Akershus. We had the breakfast and it was absolutely magical. We happened to be the first in line for the 9:50 seating ( I am guessing that is when the 2nd seating begins) and in full yellow gown strolled Belle, over to my daughter in line, (who happened to have the same Belle dress on) took her hand and led her to the photo area. My 3yr old daughter was just enchanted. And I don't believe Belle greets anyone else except for the first in the line?

My son is 4 and he happens to love the princesses, (all characters), so he enjoyed it as well. We received the photo package for both my son and daughter with belle (separately!). The pics are priceless!

Then during breakfast, we were seated at the door where the princesses enter, and the pace during eating was perfect. Snow White, Princess Aurora, Jasmine, and Mulan all visited our table. Not rushed, food was excellent (a great staff who replenishes your breakfast entrees), plus a cold buffet of fruits, cheeses, and some fish, I believe.

It was also just neat being in the World Showcase so early, (it doesn't open until 11, usually), so we took great pics and wandered around before/after our meal.

From what I understand, Breakfast is the way to go.

We did 1900 Park Fare for dinner that same trip and while the characters are *GREAT* (it's like a live show, the stepsisters and Lady Tremaine are just hysterical, Cindy and the Prince are there as well)--the buffet wasn't as great as I expected.

1900 PF is really for the environment (the characters, plus the GF is just beautiful--especially during the holidays!). The food wasn't bad; I just can't remember anything to rave about on the buffet. Everyone loved the infamous strawberry soup, however.

I would say yes! We did lunch and my not quite 3 year old daughter absolutely loved it. As for being Norwegian, my grandmother was Norwegian and I almost started crying when I took the first bite of my meal. I didn't even know I was ordering the same thing she used to cook for me, but one bite was like sitting in her kitchen again. I was shocked- it tasted exactly the same as I remembered her cooking.

We loved Arkeshus and our daughters are 4 and 2...............great time with the princesses and the food was pretty good. Not sure as far as whether it's authentic Norwegien....

We had lunch and loved it. We enjoyed it much more than 1900 Park Fare.
The salad bar as an appatizer beat CRT... it was also only 1 credit on the dinign plan... we got a free photo with Belle (I haven't scanned it, but it was really nice).
My dh looked at the menu and groaned. He asked the waitress if the kjottaker (however it's spelled) was like hamburger? She said "Yes, just like hamburger. It looks like a hamburger but tastes different." He got the chicken, lol. He loved it. I got the vegetable stuffed pasta and it was great. I know my dd5 got the pizza (typical WDW pizza, she enjoyed it), I can't remember what my dd8 had to eat, but know she ate well.
The princesses were fun. Speeping Beauty commented to my dd5 (who refused pics and autographs with the princesses all week) that she loved her mickey ears and it looked like her fairies musat have put some magic in them (since there were fireworks on them that lit up) and Cinderella commented to her that she loved that the castle was on the ears. My dd8 was celebrating her actual birthday and was in heaven. This place had my favorite Ariel too, her facial expression was just like the cartoon version.

I will never eat a meal other than breakfast at Akershus. We found our lunch disgusting, and were hungry when we left.

We are not picky eaters. We travel a lot and eat many different styles of cooking.

I think there is a problem when you have to search for someting edible on a menu. When you look at a menu you should have trouble deciding what you want to eat, because everything sounds so good. At Alkershus it is the opposite.

We had lunch there back in October 2006 and loved it. I have Norwegian relatives and have visited Norway a few times over the years, so I knew what type of food to expect. I had the kjottakake - my favourite Norwegian meal - and they were tasty!

Don't worry - you will not miss out meeting one of the princesses if you are not first in line. There will be a princess out greeting guests before you enter the restaurant - this pic is the one included. You'll receive your photo during your meal. The other princesses will come visit with you at your table.

I'm considering dinner there since my boys love any character meal and we're so tired of the Garden Grill (had to dine there TWICE last trip due to the kids!)

How's the lamb? I know DH would order that. I'd also like to know how the pasta and Kjottake (sp) are? Is the kjottake (sp) similar to meatloaf??? I'd consider those two entrees myself.

What exactly is on the buffet table? Just cold salads?? Do they have "american" salad dressings?

Sorry for the stupid questions, never been there so I have no idea.

We had the Kjottkake last time. It is very similar to meatloaf. Served with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. We enjoyed it. Is it gourmet, no, you are at a character meal. In our experience it was much better than any character buffet food at Disney. Sorry, haven't tried lamb or pasta yet, just salmon, which was good too.

From what I remember of the cold buffet (I'm just not much of a salad person), it was mostly cheeses, prepared salads, some baby shrimp, and I'm pretty sure some sort of other seafood item. I can't imagine that there wasn't some regular salad greens in there too, but I don't remember specifics. Someone else might be able to answer to that.

I'm in the "can't say enough good things" category too!

We went for lunch in September and I was a little worried about not finding anything we'd like, but it turned out to be the best meal and experience of our entire 10 day trip. We loved it! Our kids were able to get some fruit from the cold buffet and hot dogs for their entree, so all three were pleased! I ordered an open-faced salmon sandwich and it was delicious. I forget what my DH got, but we enjoyed his as well. Our waitress was quick and very sweet.

We went for my DD2, and she was just stunned when she saw Belle, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel and Jasmine!! I was nearly in tears watching her with Ariel (her fav)....DD stood next to our table the entire meal so that she could peek around the room to see each of the princesses. They were all lovely to her...got down on her level, some pulled her onto their laps, others hugged her.

Then my DS's (7 and 5), who were less than thrilled with the whole princess meal idea got a few kisses and plenty of embarrassing pictures taken by Mom!

We're going back in March and we can't wait (well, the boys can wait... )

We've done breakfast here twice - love it and would go back. We ate in Norway for dinner years ago before it was a princess meal - it was just a Norweigian buffet back then. And we thought that was good. I'd try lunch or dinner at Akershus anytime!

We've been for dinner and ENJOYED it immensely. If you have a little one that wants to see princesses, this is definitely the most expedient and unrushed way to meet them. All six of us liked our meals - the kids had typical kid fare, the adults had salmon (with the sauce served on the side), lamb, and the Kjo... thing I can't spell but is sort of meatloaf like. I'm planning to make dinner reservations there for our upcoming trip again.

I would love to do breakfast, but have heard they don't offer any waffles/pancakes and my DS4 lives on them. He won't look at an egg! So dinner it is!
