AK worth a visit?

By jungle ride I meant the one that is a boat ride that is right next to FOP. I forget the name, it's an odd name. It's a calm ride. I am so glad to hear dinosaur ride won't be closed on 1/13. My daughter loves that ride.
Na'vi River Journey.

I always think it’s a good park to start with. When we take ‘new’ people, we can get them used to the walk and the lines, and if need be a trip early back to room to prepare for MK or DHS next day. Or even day that we want to use DVCpool

Around 25k people visit Animal Kingdom every day. So I think there are certainly people out there who think Animal Kingdom is worth visiting.

We planned on AK on Monday, 1/13 when I believe dinosaur ride will be closed and the whole amusement area? We are picking AK because we love the safari and we don't like alot of fast rides, so we picked AK over HS. I am looking now and there doesn't seem to be much to do at AK. We will see a few shows and go on the safari but other then that, there are only a few other rides (kali, EE, FOP and jungle ride (forget name). Could we spend a whole day there? Have dinner reservations at Yak and Yedi at 5:30pm. Don't have hopper passes. Thanks for advice.

I agree with all the others. AK is our favorite park at WDW. It is so beautiful and well done. You can wander the trails and see many animals. The attractions are fun and varied, but to me it is the atmosphere of the park that I love. I think others have explained it better than me.
But everyone is different and love different things. If HS is something you really love, then you might just do that. Or if you have kids that want to do the HS attractions that would be a big draw for you too. We are an older couple, but even when the kids were young, we all loved AK the best.

We always eat at Yak and Yeti and have never had a dish we didn't love. We made it a must do whenever we visited.

Whether a park is worthwhile is definitely a personal preference. We never did AK until our fifth trip because we prefer rides. We had a nice time at AK on our most recent trip, but we probably won’t return again soon. We have lots of zoos and museums near home, so seeing animals is not a priority. We have accepted that we are Magic Kingdom people.

If you're a ride person -- come out to DLR -- you'll never go back to WDW for the rides ;)

We never spend an entire day at AK because we usually go in the summer. I could see spending more time there in the winter when it's cooler.

I love the theming of that park - the crumbling buildings, the worn paint, etc.

To me it's a slower paced park because it lacks the multiple thrill rides of the other parks. In DHS, we hop from ride to ride. Not so at AK.

DLR is Disneyland Resort, which includes both Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks.
Correct. Here in Anaheim, we have basically all of WDW rides within a 20minute walk from end to end.

Missing are a few rides unique to wdw like cosmic rewind, Tron, ratatouille, fop. But you'll get the bulk of them and magic without the sore feet on distance walking between rides.

As this thread is in the WDW FL portion of DISboards, please keep discussions on topics. The OP of this thread is asking about AK.
Just responding to some folk up thread and not intended to derail. There is so much of Disney people simply just don't know...

As I did mention uptrend, AK is the bomb for us and primary joy of visitng WDW despite having San Diego zoo in our backyard .

The theming is tremendous. The shows are top notch.

If you like Up!, you'll be in for a treat. Caw caw roar!

If you are a landrys card holder...priority seating at yak and yeti is a very nice.touch

I skip AK most years - there really aren’t many rides I like - I only do the Safari ride and Navi - but if I have to be honest - it’s the absolute mortal fear of snakes that keeps me from visiting more often…ever since one fell out of a tree and bit a woman on the face - I can’t enjoy the park…

That’s only partially true…while a snake reportedly did fall out of a tree, it was a boy who was bit, and not on the face. While I’m not a fan of snakes, by that logic, snakes could fall out of a tree anywhere in WDW given its FL!

Yeah - you’re right - it was the boy who was bitten and then (they claimed) the grandmother - who witnessed the incident - had a heart attack and died. As far as snakes in the trees at the other parks - there just aren’t that many clustered where people walk like there is in AK….

So much depends upon individual preferences. Some of us (me) can go to any WDW park and not board a single ride and have the best time (solo). AK offers a whole lot of scenic, beautiful, peaceful opportunities. The safari can be done over and over and never be the same experience. The shows are very entertaining and relaxing. Taking time to watch the animal residents is amazing. Walking thru and around the Tree of Life can lead to really cool discoveries. I find the shops at AK to have the most, the best, and widest selection of merchandise from every park. Lots of places to find food. Normally I do AK on a sleep-in day where I'm in no rush to get there. I do park hop - but it's very possible to spend lots of time there.

If you are a fan of the slower-paced rides, then I would stick with AK. Since you already have an evening ressie at Yak, I might suggest making that a sleep in morning. Enjoy your resort, etc. We have had great success with entering the park later (as many are starting to leave) and enjoying lighter lines for rides right before dinner.

We love AK and do it every time on a longer (4+ days) trip. If we are just doing 1-2 park days, it usually gets skipped. The tough part about deciding if you want to do AK is that there are some absolute top notch attractions, but then not much else if you arent interested in walking the trails. FOP, Everest, Safari and the Lion King Show are probably all in my top 8 attractions in DW, but after that there is nothing for me. I also think FlameTree is the best quick service food in all of DW.
