AK Sunset and Sunrise Safaris

We did both safaris when we stayed concierge in 2008. We, too, preferred the Sunset Safari for the unique opportunity to be on the savanna at the Lodge. I have also done the regular Backstage Safari at AK 2x (thru the Tours), and while it doesn't include a breakfast prefer that to the Sunrise Safari. The tour offers backstage tours of animal barns, the vet clinic at Conservation Station, and the Kilimanjaro Safari without the regular script.

All of that said, when we stay Concierge in 2010, we'll probably do both Sunrise and definitely Sunset Safari again.

To Bobbi: I wonder if it was some of the unique spices in the chicken dish that made you ill. Sorry it turned out to be a negative experience.

Who knows? I don't dwell on it and will eat in Jiko's again. I'm also not very sturdy on my legs and the bumpy ride just wasn't for me, because you had to stand and hold on, or else you didn't see much from the truck.

Diane mentioned the gamey giraffes! Well, on the sunrise trip, the giraffes were very frisky coming out of their pen. The males have their own way of finding out if the females will be responsive and at least one was "Checking things out!" The regular safari is very tame after that morning experience.

In the morning it was great to see the rhinos (or was it the hippos?) running! I didn't realize something so large could move around, enjoying Freedom, and the morning drizzle, I suppose. Turned around in the truck where the ostrich nest is usually present and there was a rhino with his head right up to the safari vehicle. I think he wanted to see who we were!

DH doesn't have lots of vacation time, so we have to go to WDW on weekends together. I wouldn't hesitate to book another weekend, Saturday night at least, to be able to do the Sunrise safari again. I would have done it for the September trip (We have concierge Friday night for the expedition in AK on Saturday) but DH also likes BCV and SAB and that's where we'll be on Saturday/Sunday nights then.

That's correct. If you're not concierge at AKL/AKV then you cannot do the Sunrise Safari.
