A CM told us that AK Safari at night (8pm-closing) was usually a walk on and no need for a FP. Still the case? That makes sense with ROL and esp. now with Pandora.

Pretty much.

Just keep in mind, you can't see much of anything. That's probably why it's a walk on

It definitely was last summer. We did a few night time visits to AK. Both times we literally walked right on...there were multiple trucks lined up just waiting for guests.

I might chance it and change that fp to something else. We have a fp earlier in the trip for an earlier time

Same question...Did you find the animals more active at night, were you able to see them ?

I have always enjoyed the safari first thing in the AM as I found as a general rule the earlier in the morning I could ride, the more active the animals were. Safari ride is one of my favorite attractions and I am looking forward to trying it experiencing it latter in the evening.

Just wondering, for those who have been on it at night, is there much to see?

No. Probably 4 or 5 times as many animals during the day than at night. We went a couple weeks ago around 8pm and we only saw a handful of animals.

The only thing cool about the night safari imo is the fake sunset that they do over the savanna..I thought they did a really good job with that

Thank you for the info! I wanted to make sure we weren't going to be missing anything special if we didn't ride at night.

I disagree, we LOVED the safari night! First, it was at nite, classic dark ride. We went 4 times last week. thought the "sunset" effect was great, the painted ds were so active, as well as the wildebeast and gnus. Giraffes were wandering about, and on one of the trips, we were stopped by a crane trying to eat a rock. I'm not saying to give up the day safari, but the nite is a whole different experience.

We did dusk last fall, and it was a little disappointing. Fewer animals. I had heard the lions were more active and vocal,, but I don't even know think they were out. I would do it again though on the expectation of a unique experience.
