Has anyone flown AirTran? Are they a new airline? Am thinking of using them in July.

I know that Beverly Lynn can answer that one! don't fly unless you have no other option available to you!

I flew AirTran in November and again in April from Philadelphia. They are a budget airline and their prices are good. The only problem we had was on our return flight from Orlando to Philadelphia in November. The flight was overbooked and they did not have seats for our party of 10. They put us up in the Hilton Hotel in the Orlando airport terminal and gave us 10 free roundtrip vouchers. We just used the vouchers for our trip to Tampa in April. If you do choose AirTran, you have to check in at the airport 1-1.5 hours before your flight departure time. They do not seat assign when you make your reservation. You also have to check in your own luggage. We would fly them again.

our Airtran "experience". We flew Airtran on our honeymoon because it was cheeeeep! (Hey, our priorities at the time:rolleyes: ) We were supposed to get to MCO around 5 or 6 pm. We finally got there after 10pm. We got hung up in Atlanta (Airtran's hub) because first, the plane was late. The plane got there, but they had no pilot (a necessary thing, I know!) Then, the plane & pilot were there, but they were short a stewardess.

We all offered to wheel the beverage cart for the missing person, but they didn't go for it! :p Needless to say, we were not happy campers.

No, we did not register our complaint with Airtran because we did not want a free voucher to fly them again!

Isn't AirTrans what use to be Value Jet??? or have I gotten it confused with another airline?

They used to be Value Jet - the name changed shortly after there was a crash a few years ago.
We have flown Air Tran a few times out of Atlanta and have never experienced a problem. Our flights have always been on time and we have never been bumped. Part of this may be due to the times we choose to fly - we always fly VERY early in the morning (first flight out usually) and later in the evenings on our returns. I am not adverse to using other airlines though and we will most likely book something different for this upcoming trip unless the prices are not competitive whatsoever.

Have always flown Airtran to Orlando. Always on time or even a few minutes early getting there. We usually leave Orlando a bit late because of fog, but always end up getting home right about the scheduled time. The pilots have always been very pleasant to us and even invite the kids to the cockpit after the flight. You can't beat the price either. You don't get served anything but soda and biscuit(cracker), but by the time we get in the air and have a snack the pilot is telling us to put our belts on as we are approaching Atlanta. We jump on a connecting plane and repeat the same pattern. The flight goes so fast.
I have to admit that price is my deciding factor because I can use the rest for other things. I do hope that Delta will offer a good deal out of Peoria when it starts up in August. I really hate that drive to Bloomington at 4a.m.

On November 17, 1997, Airways Corporation ("Airways") merged with Valujet. In anticipation of the Merger, the name of ValuJet Airlines was changed
to "AirTran Airlines" .

I flew them from Atlanta to Jacksonville and was very happy with the flight, flight crew and especially the gate crew. I flew on one of their old Dc-9's (like Northwest flies) which are gradually being replaced by new 717's.

Having flown Atlanta's other carrier (Delta), I would pick Air Tran over Delta. I've just had too many bad experiences with Delta. Others have probably had bad experiences with Air Tran, so its basically a crap shoot.
