If Airtran reduced one leg of our trip by $10 per seat (we bought 6 seats, so that's $60), can we get some kind of credit? It would be great if we could get a credit for our checked bags or something.
Thanks!

In the past they would allow you to get the credit, but that stopped earlier this year. You would have to pay a $75 per ticket change fee, which would obviously more than wipe out any potential savings.

The last time I got a credit on AirTran for a lower fare, the phone fee had gone up to $15 per person. If they are charging the $75/ticket change fee again, you are out of luck.

They changed out route a total of 3 times between booking and our travel date. Each time the itinerary got worse, and was cheaper in price, yet we never received a refund despite the fact that we paid for a much more expensive direct flight. By the time our travel dates rolled around, we had 2 connectings. We ended up missing almost a whole day due to the changes, we called and were told we would be refunded the difference since the changes were none of our doing. A year later, nothing, no response after the phone call. We would never travel airtran again because they change their itineraries so much, and you just can't guarantee that what you book and pay for, is what you will end up getting. Also, they have to have the most uncomfortable seats I've ever had the pleasure of flying in. I wish I had a better answer for you, and that you would be getting the price difference back in the mail!! Hope you have a great vacation anyways!!

Gonna sound harsh here... but would you call them and offer them $10 per person if the price went up? No. Buying airfare is kind of like buying gas. You can fill your car up and then the price can go down later in the day. You would never stop back in to that station and demand a refund for the difference. Same thing with airfare. If the price goes down, so be it... buy when you are happy with the price and never look back......

Some airlines have "ruined" it for others (such as SW) by offering a credit...... the fact is, prices change all the time.....

Just my 2¢

Ruined it? That is called the free market. If 1 gas station offered a refund within 24 hours if the price went down, who wouldn't want to go to that gas station? And, it just might pull in more business away from the others. If the business model works, whatever floats their boat.

No luck on the price decrease with them :(

If they do change your flight though, you can accept it or not. They will let you fly the day before, after or change that days flights. If none of those options are acceptable(we were going to a wedding) they fully refunded my money. I knew over a month out, so just got a comparable priced flight on Southwest for it.

I agree. I don't have any problem with how SW does it. I also don't have any problem with people seeing if they can get a refund.

It only starts getting under my skin when people act like they are entitled to a refund and start demanding that their airline give them a credit. That would be like people demanding that SW assign them a seat on the plane because Airtran does that.

Different companies have different rules. No problem checking into the rules and seeing if they work in your favor (like the OP did), but don't get you undies in a wad if an airline follows its own rules (which the OP did not do, but others on here have).
