I wouldn't think so. We fly Airtran all the time, always in Zone 4 and never had a problem. In fact even at takeoff there is plenty of space available so we throw our personal items up there too. I guess it depends on the flight though. We usually fly in the Spring and right after Thanksgiving and they say that the flight is full, but still never had a problem.

I was on a packed flight and there was still space overhead for carry ons.

It seems to be more difficult on the way home; what with everyone carry all those Disney bags!
