Airtran is coming to our town this summer. They're taking bookings now, but the good flight to MCO I want in July - 6 am departure, one quick stop at BWI and stay on the same plane - is only showing regular ($279 one way) and business class fares. The lowest web fares on the less-attractive flights (change planes, 2 hour layover) are $99. This doesn't seem so cheap, even these days with higher fares...

So my question - do Airtran fares tend to come down in the months ahead of departure? Any recommendations on how to get the best fares out of Airtran? thanks

We fly Air Tran all the time to MCO. I've had low fares by booking really, really early and I've had good fares by booking practically last minute.

I would suggest signing up for their weekly email updates. They announce all of their web fares in those emails.

They constanty run fare sales, but once they get to only having the high priced seats left (on the far right of the price screen), they typically don't come back down. I think I have seen this once or twice.

They will tell you that their best fares will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday flights.

Watch for the sales and grab when you see the price you are looking for.

Last month I booked Airtran PHL to MCO for our May trip and paid $79. This past weekend the price was $49 so yes, it does come down.

Thanks for the replies, I'll keep watching. They just opened up fares for our airport, but possibly the connections for July out of BWI were already booked up. $279 one way is out of my range....

AirTran will give you a credit for the difference in price if you call them. I had the same thing happen to me flying from PHL to MCO. I now have $60 to use for our next trip.:cool1:
