Airtran up grade

If I would up grade at time of check in to business class is there a diff in price as in being cheaper since those seats did not sell ?

I believe the upgrade will cost $49 per flight segment and there are no other charges.

They would rather the seat go empty than upgrade it at a lower price. I was flying a full flight last night on airtran and there was one empty seat in business class. The man next to me wanted to move and they told him it would be $99 and they accept credit cards on the plane. He decided to stay put.

Well it is cheaper to buy a paid upgrade than buying a business class ticket. But don't expect to get a free upgrade.

I can understand the fee. I am sure there are plenty of other people on that plane in coach that would like to move up to that business class seat. Charging the fee removes the flight attendants having to choose who gets to move there.

Sounds like they changed their policies. The last time I flew Airtran a few years ago, they announced a decreased price for business class at the gate. Normal cost $75 and it was being offered for $35. Sounds like they stopped that practice.

I really think it depends on where the flight is coming from because I upgraded to Business class for 49.00 each way.
It was from ATL to MCO and MCO to ATL. This was at the end of April/and early May coming home.

I believe that is the going rate for a flight from atlanta to orlando
