Airtran today announced it will begin serving Detroit, including one daily nonstop to Orlando, beginning Nov 8 2005. Tickets for some dates are currently on sale for $84 one way, which using airline math adds to $186.90 RT. Go for it.

I wonder where there going to get gates for this? Smith terminal is totally full and I know that Skyteam isn't giving out any room in the Mcnamera terminal.

Has anyone had experiences that they can share about AirTran Airways?

I flew out of Smith last week on SWA and it looked to me that there were a few unused USAir gates and a Delta one. (Across from the Starbuck's kiosk)

Also, aren't there a few unused gates at the end of the SWA area and the SPIRIT area???

I am on NWA flights the next few weeks, otherwise I'd check.

Sry, I forgot that Delta moved from smith to Mcnammera....

They will probibly only require one gate.

Thanks! Now I have a second option if I don't get a better rate on Southwest. Right now I can fly out of Columbus, OH for $689.70 (3 of us), Airtran is $560 out of Detroit!

Anyone have any experiance with Airtran?

We have flown Airtran out of Flint before. Excellent flight! On time and great crew. The line was long checking in for our flight leaving Orlando so we used curb side check in instead of waiting.

I'm glad to hear they will be serving DTW. I will definitely check the fairs and possibly use them again.

We have flown Airtran nonstop Dayton-Orlando the last couple years and have had good experiences. It is a well-established airline somewhat like Southwest but with different practices and a less-developed route system. Their fleet is very young, mostly 717s with some 737s. They concentrate on eastern US to Florida and have a main hub in Atlanta and a smaller hub in Baltimore.

Just today I flew Airtran Dayton-Baltimore and Southwest Baltimore-Manchester, NH. I like Airtran better.
