Airtran seats at check-in question

If we wait till the 24 hour check-in to choose our seats, will we have to pay for the extra leg room or first boarding if that is all that is available?

Don't know the answer, but have the same question. We didn't pay for seats as we don't really care where we sit/ if we are all together. It would seem awful to punish us by making us pay extra for our flexibility, but I never thought about it.

You will not have to pay any extra if you do not book, but be prepared to not sit with anyone else in your party. Last year we booked AirTran to Orlando and none of us (group of 7) sat be side anyone. One in our party actually got moved to first class due to lack of seats.

You will not have to pay for your seats, but even if those seats up close to the front are available, you don't get boarding zone 1, unless you paid for the seat prior to 24 hour mark. In fact, if not paid for in advance, those seats will give you boarding zone 7. I've seen people arguing with the gate agent that when they checked online those seats said Priority boarding zone 1. The gate agent explained they are boarding zone 1 if you paid the $15.00 or $13.00 seat fee prior to the 24 hour mark, but if you wait until the 24 hour mark the seats may be free, but their boarding zone will now be zone 7 (very last).

Yes, I was my second trip. The cost varies depending how far from point a to point b. You can see the costs on their website; unless you originated from the same point I started, the cost I tell you I paid would be a moot point.
