Any reviews or experience (good or bad) with AirTran...specifically from Philly to Orlando? The rates are great and we are looking to fly in Aug...family of four for about $800 roundtrip.

How are the planes? Service?

My biggest concern is that you can get seat assignments until either 24 hours prior via online check in or at the airport the morning of the flight.......we obviously want to be at least sitted 2 and 2 (each with a child)...any thoughts on this?

Thanks

we flew airtran from philly to orlando this past august and everything went fine. i was still up packing at midnight so i just got online, chose our seats, and printed boarding passes. it was easy and we all got seats together (we sat 2 and 2). for the return home, i got online at the resort and checked in. there wasn't a printer available so i couldn't print boarding passes. i just noted the transaction# and verified that we were checked in. for some reason, one of my seats was bumped about 12 rows behind the other 3 and they were unable to change it. we just asked someone to move and they gladly did. there was a delay coming home (a problem with the plane) and they made the decision to change planes. we were on the runway for awhile before we returned to the gate and boarded a new plane. we were all concerned about our connecting flights, and just about the whole plane went running when we landed but airtran had held all planes that had passengers on our flight so it worked out.

i think we paid $159 roundtrip and i would definitely fly them again.

We flew AirTran from Buffalo via Atlanta a few weeks ago. We also checked on-line the night before. We did not have a problem getting seated together on any of the flights down or back. Even if you do check in on-line, get to the airport early. They seem to oversell their flights on a regular basis. Our flight down was uneventful, but they were asking for volunteers to give up their seats due to oversell on our flight and a number of others to orlando that connected in Atlanta. Coming home, equipment problems delayed our flight and we missed our connection so we had to spend the night in Atlanta. Baggage was not matched to the passengers when we did get a flight out of Atlanta the next morning, so needless to say our baggage has a longer vacation than we did. If it's not a huge $ difference, I fly with someone else

The one time we flew Airtran, we also had plane trouble at MCO and missed our connection in Atlanta--Airtran was good to us and got us on the next flight out, but it's kinda funny that all three of these posts had "plane" trouble at MCO. I don't like having a layover in Atlanta, but the tickets were cheaper than anything else I could find.

:D We are lucky in that we have a direct flight with AirTran from Flint, Michigan to Orlando, no layover in Atlanta. We have used them MANY times, and have never had any problems. I also reserve our seats on-line the day before, though once we get to the airport (arrive early!), we usually change the seats to an "emergency row" so we have more leg room. Have never had plane problems (knock on wood!), and would definately book thru AirTran again!

I want to stress that fliers should get to Orlando Airport (MCO) at least two hours before their flight departure, maybe even more, as the last time we flew out of MCO, it took us almost one/half hour to get thru the check-in line, and then almost another FULL hour to get thru the security checkpoint. It was very crowded, and it wasn't even a holiday season!!

I know that you are not suppose to be able to get your seat assignments until 24 hours before the flight, but we are flying BWI to MCO roundtrip April 18 and 25. We already have our seating assignments on our e-mail confirmation. As a matter of fact I called Airtran about 2 weeks ago to confirm our flights(our return had changed), and inquired about already having our seats. They confirmed what was printed on my e-mail, already have seats! Not sure how or why. Maybe everything will change once we get to the airport. Who knows!!!!!

We just returned, 3/24. We flew Air Tran out of Milwaukee, a direct flight both ways for about $200/seat round trip. It was great. Flights were on time. I was a little worried about getting seat assignment for the flight back but it was no problem. We arrived at MCO about 1 1/2 hours before our flight and were assigned seats 3 accross and 1 accross the aisle from the 3. Absolutely no problems. We would fly Air Tran again.

We flew Airtran in November. I called them about a week before about my seat assignments as we were flying with 2 kids. I was able to get them. :) Great flight, great service. No problems.

Flew Airtran back in December. I loved them. The flight was great, the attendents were nice, and the price couldn't be beat. If it says anything, we will be with the again for our June trip.

barbnjmom-

this is our first time on airtran and my ta was able to assign our seats when we purchased the tickets. so far the only complaint i have with them is that they lowered our fare twice in less than a week and won't refund the difference(even in a credit) w/o s paying a change fee.
