AirTran questions

Up until this point; I have exclusively flown SW. However, their prices for Nov/Dec have been astronomical IMHO.

My DH and me are flying from BOS to RSW for a long weekend in November with AirTran. I booked non stop flights and am hoping they stay as non stop. I checked the seats and it appears the flights are pretty full so I am hoping that means they will leave the flights as is.

We have also just decided to do a Universal/SW/WDW trip the first week of December for 10 days. I can get seats on AirTran for $920 for 4 round trip tix. The flight down is non stop - great time. The flight back has a layover in Atlanta. I don't usually book layovers with the kids but the non stop flight is too early. My travel dates are Dec 2 - Dec 12.

On to my questions...

If you do not purchase seats ahead of time - will you get split up from your family? I know...if it is important to me I should buy seats. I probably will...just wanted to ask.

I have never flown in December before. Is $920 a good price for 4 RT tickets? Adding in one checked bag and 4 seats it would only bring it up to $983 or $246 each. The fares seem high but, as I said, I have never flown in Dec.

I am so bummed to be "defecting" from SW but their flights for the same days were $1300 so we saved almost $400 even with the extra fees.

Thanks!

Yes, those who paid to book a seat will get their seats; you will get whatever is left over.

I am booked round trip, non-stop both ways from BWI for $192.00 (the lowest I have ever seen it), because I fly out the Saturday after Thanksgiving. So I don't think it is bad at $246.00 from Boston.

I would keep an eye on the flight prices for the next week or so. I keep checking my flights for early Dec. for time changes and notice the price changes by about $20. I will say though, that they have not gone as low as when I bought them though, $222 RT, nonstop with seat assignments.

Oh, if you want to sit together, pay for your seat assignments. I have heard many stories where families have not been able to sit together.

I saw this first hand last september on the way to Disney, I had taken special note of it because I came close to not paying for seat assignments. It was a mom, dad, a boy 4ish and a girl 2ish. I have always assumed they would not let a kid sit by themselves, boy I was wrong on that flight.

Thanks so much for letting me know about the seats. I will definitely pay for the seat then. Not worth it for me to take that much of a chance. I'm hoping AirTran is a good airline since I am flying them in Nov and Dec. I'm so bummed Sw's prices are so high. Oh well....we'll be at Disney.:goodvibes
