First time flying AirTran and I didn't notice a place to pay for checked bags when I purchased the tickets (like you can on Spirit), can you do that during the 24-hour check in, or do they only allow it a the airport? Also, our departing flight has disappeared on the AirTran site, but I notice it is still is being offered on Kayak, and when you click through to AirTran they offer it. Haven't received any emails from them, do I need to call? TIA ~:)~

I believe it can be done when you check in. I will let you know at 11:00 a.m today with I check in.

On Airtran, you can pay for your bags at check-in on your departing flight.

On your return flight, you can pay for the bags at check-in at the 24 hour mark or at the airport.

If you plan on using the RAC counter, do NOT check in at the 24 hour mark. If you do, you are considered already checked in and the RAC counter will be locked out from checking your bags, tagging them, giving you the boarding passes and taking the bags back to the airport.

If you are using ME, you will receive a package under your door the night before you check out with all your info, including the number to call to pay for your bags and the time the ME will pick you up at the resort.

Some have reported since I was there in December, that you can now pay the bag fees at the RAC counter, but I cannot verify that - we had to pay before.

So on AirTran you pay for checked bags in advance (24 hour check in) not at the counter in the airport? What is the RAC counter? Sorry for the questions but this is the first time I have used AirTran too. On American we just pay for the checked bags at the counter on day of departure.

On the day of departure from your home airport, you can pay right at the counter - at your day of departure from MCO, you can use the Resort Airline Check-in with Airtran.

If you are flying Airtran, they are a participating airline with the Resort Airline Counter. You can use the service from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm, as long as you can check your bags three hours before your ME departure time. ME is three hours departure before your flight time.

So say, you are departing at 11:00 am; your ME time for pick-up would be 8:00 am and you can check your bags at the RAC at your resort - and they will take your bags back to the airport. They will print your boarding passes as well, so all you have to do when you get to the MCO is go through security and get on the plane.

With Airtran, you don't have to touch your bags from the time you check-in at the departure airport until you return to your departure airport.

That's what I love about flying Airtran over Southwest. Out of BWI, they are the only airlines that fly non-stop out to MCO. But Southwest is not a participating airline in the RAC program, so you have to get your bags back to the airport on the ME bus and wait in line to check-in.

We aren't using ME, we are renting a car. I wish you could send your luggage on ME without the person being on it. I assume you can't?

You can send baggage through RAC, even though you are renting a car. ME and RAC are too totally different operations - see the sticky up top about DME and luggage transfer. It really helps, since it will save you time because now you just have to return the car!

You must just make sure that you are checking your bags anywhere from 12 to 3 hours before your flight to use RAC. And you must be flying on a participating airline - which is in the top sticky......

Fantastic!!!! This will really help. Thank you so much! We are using AirTran for our upcoming trip and I know they are a participating airline. :thumbsup2
