Being anal like I am, when AirTran states that you can check-in online (and get your seat assignment and boarding pass) 24 hours in advance, do they mean exactly 24 hours in advance of your flight, or is it something like starting at 7:00 AM the day before? Also, will I be able to select my own seats? I just want to do so as early as possible in order to try and keep my family together.

Yes, you can check in exactly 24 hours before and not a minute sooner. You can select your own seats and print out your boarding pass. You should not have any problem keeping your family together since the only one that can select seats prior to that time are business class passangers.

For the return flight if you do not have access to teh internet I would suggest calling AirTran customer service and asking them to assign your seats at that time.

i did this for our trip in august to akl and everything went fine. i checked in at home the minute my 24 hour window flipped and got seats together. for the return trip, i checked in at the internet terminals at the resort but couldn't print boarding passes because there was a printer available. the only problem we had with this was that when i got to the airport, one of my seats was not with the others. they were unable to change it but once we boarded we asked someone to move which people usually do when there is a child involved. if you choose to check in at the resort for your return trip, i would just call the airtran to make certain that the seats you requested are there!

by the way, check in at the airport was easy as well. i just showed the boarding passes we printed and the attendant printed lugguage tags and we proceeded to the gate.
