Is a wheeled upright carryon OK to take on AirTran? I think mine is 21" tall. Will it fit in the 717's overhead? I know it won't fit on regional jets since their overheads are too small, but are the 717 overheads much bigger?

Thanks! ;)

This is from the AirTran website-

No carry-on item may exceed overall dimensions of 55 inches (Height + Length + Width) and must fit under the seat or in the overhead bin.

Hope that helps you.

I think their bins are the same size as any regular jet. They advertise on their website that the 717 bins are the same size as a 747's. When we fly home Friday night :( I'll see what other people are carrying on. My carryon is the size of an overnight bag (no wheels) and fit with no problem. I did notice that the underseat space for the window seat is very small. I couldn't fit my laptop under it. The aisle seat seemed to have plenty of room (we were on the side with 2 seats).

Yes it will fit. The 717s are really nice.

Thanks everyone! ;)

Debbie, how was AirTran? We'll be using them for the first time in a couple weeks! I'm a little concerned, though, since we don't have seat assignments yet. I don't think we can check-in online, either, since we booked with Expedia. How was PIT's AirTran ticket counter? Long lines? I think their gates are in C, aren't they? Thanks. :)

There was no line at the counter. We got there about 10:30 for the 11:50 flight. The x-ray machine is right there, so you don't have to drag your luggage far. We left out of gate C-52. I thought they were great! I'll update about the return flight tomorrow night (I hate to even think of returning to the cold north!).

Happy to hear some good about AirTran. We'll be flying with them for the first time in February...we're also taking the 11:50 flight down out of PIT, but on Superbowl Sunday.

I flew home tonight. Wheeled carryons will definitely fit. Our flight arrived 10 or 15 minutes early. Baggage claim pretty quick. I reserved the seats last night with my laptop but had the skycap print the boarding passes (curbside check). I would definitely fly Air Tran again.

Thank you for the report! I feel better about flying them now. I'll relax, lol.
