I was checking to see if Airtran had changed our flight time any, and saw that they cancelled 4 flights for that day.........which is the Sat after Tgiving. Hmmmm

You may want to recheck after they go through a system upgrade that they are performing at the moment as well as the flights could also be completely booked and therefore do not show up anymore.

We are also taking Air Tran. They have already changed our flight twice. We started out with a non stop flight to Orlando, but now we have to stop in Atlanta. Darn.

Ours have changed too. It puts us in WDW a couple hours earlier, but our layover in ATL has been changed from about an hour to only 28 minutes! Is this even possible? :confused3

We used Airtran last year and they cancelled our flights and they didn't notifiy me right away. I assume they would've notified me eventually, I just noticed before them. They refunded my money and were very friendly and I had to book on another carrier. The only thing left with them for my timeframe was connecting flights and my flight that got cancelled was a non-stop. Since they charge for luggage now, I don't use them anymore. I fly Southwest and Jetblue now. I'm very lucky to have many choices out of Dulles airport and BWI. If you book with Airtran, please check your flights often as you will most likely notice a change before they notify you of one. Other than that, they were very nice -- I just won't pay all of the fees with them, so don't fly them anymore.

In my experience Airtran is terrible with notifying people about flight changes. Last year I had a flight changed w/o knowing (I happened to check it b/c my family was asking if I had booked my flight). They were changing me from a direct flight from White Plains, NY to a layover in Atlanta. I will not do a connecting flight unless I absolutely have to- so I called them. The customer service representative told me that they hadn't sent an email out and she didn't even see one pending! She also said sometimes they simply don't inform you! I was horrified. Since they changed my flight I was able to get a refund and managed to get lucky and get a cheaper flight on Jet Blue!

Southwest is the only airline I'm aware of that DOESN'T have a well-earned reputation for rescheduling and canceling flights. AirTran is no worse than any of the others in this department.

Are you sure the flights were cancelled? Some airlines stop displaying a flight if it's sold out.

To scrap and anyone else who has had a major flight change:
I'm not a fan of Airtran at all, but they do have a pretty good rep of making things right when this happens. Call, be polite and see if they will change your flight. I've seen a bunch of stories here on the Dis where people end up on a much better flight than they originally booked because of Airtran schedule changes.

I booked our flights in April for times that reasonably fit our schedule. In June both of our flight times were changed by more than 4 hours. I discovered it when checking on another reservation through my TA. My TA got us on different flights which again met our schedule, but Airtran wanted to charge us $300 for the change plus $270 for the difference in airfare for the return flight.

My TA went to bat for us and got those charges removed, but it was a tense few days until that happened. It pays to have a TA who will fight for your rights.

That's really interesting, because I fly the Saturday after Thanksgiving too; I have flown Airtran every time and never had a flight changed on me. I just looked at their site and every single flight out of BWI is still there......wondering if it is just certain airports????

We flew Airtran out of BWI in March. Both of our flights got changed and the changes did not work for us (the flight down was nonstop and they changed us to a connecting flight, the flight home was moved up so that we had to leave earlier than planned.) Airtran's customer service department was very pleasant and let me choose which flights I wanted to move to. I was able to pick any flight the day I had booked or a day before or 1 day after - I didn't have to pay any change fees nor did I have to pay any pricing differences. Because of this we extended our trip an extra day.

Ours changes we were suppose to get into Oralndo non-stop at 530 pm. They change it by 3 hours. I could not get in that late with 2 kids under 4. So I called and they just changed it to the earliest flight in the morning. the only problem is we have to stop. It is a pain with a car seat and a stroller but it is what we have to deal with to get cheap flights I guess.

That's odd. We booked with them back in February and they just recently changed our schedule by about 30 minutes, which cut our layover in Atlanta too short for my comfort. I called them myself and the agent was very easy to work with and changed our flight to one that worked better for us without even raising the issue of change fees or increased fares.

I have never heard of anyone that booked with Airtran having issues changing flights if Airtran changes the flight schedule. All reports I have seen on here were that Airtran was easy to work with and changed the flights with no fees or increased fares. Now, if you are just wanting to change, that might be different - but in cases where Airtran has changed their flight schedule, even by less than an hour, they have always been very easy to deal with.

I'm glad it worked out for you, I just can't figure out why Airtran would have initially given your TA such a hard time when they routinely work with individuals and give them the same deal that your TA had to fight for.

My thought is that the TA wanted the OP to think they worked harder for them than they actually did. :rolleyes1

Quite possibly a silly question but...
I have never flown Airtran before as they have not been in our market until recently. Everyone keeps saying to "check your flights frequently for changes", but I am unsure where you go to check. Is there an area where you go on the website after you have a confirmation, or do you check the general schedules area? I was considering booking with them since it would save us a 3 hour drive to a major airport, but have to admit all this talk about changing is about to scare me off!
thanks for any info-

You can just go to the Airtran site and then the reservations section. You are just checking info, not booking, of course. Just plug in your trip dates and available flights for that day will be listed, and see if the flight times match the ones you have, also check if its the same flight number. You can also log into your account and see if anything has changed there if you see something different when checking the reservations section. :)
