I am a first time Airtran flyer.

When i saw the airfare dropped a bit, I called and received a $53 credit.

I would like to apply that to our luggage fee. Can I do that on-line when I do on-line check in, or do I have to call to apply it?

You have to do it at the airport...that was the only way that they would allow us to use a credit for our luggage.

Oh that is a bummer! I was hoping to do on-line check-in and take care of the luggage on line too.
Do you know if I can check in on-line and just pay for my luggage at the airport?

I, too, had a credit that I ended up applying towards my return plane tickets, but when I was on the phone with the agent, he told me that if I wanted to apply the credit towards my luggage that I was to call AirTran after I did my on-line check-in and they'd apply my credit to my luggage at that time. Now, I didn't do this (as I mentioned earlier, I used the credit for other plane tickets) but I think if you call once you check-in on-line you can have the credit applied to your luggage. I hope this is all making sense - it's late and I've have a long day.

LOL ~ yes, it makes sense! :thumbsup2

I guess i will just do on-line check-in and then call. If they tell me "no", oh well, will just take care of it at the airport.
We leave next weekend so trying to get this all figured out before then.

Thanks disny_luvr & minnierocks!

OP I've always paid for luggage via credits @ the airport. fyi, it's helpful to call AirTran and ask 'where' the credit is located. I've had it pop up in my reward account and other times it'll show $0, but it's associated with my flight confirmation number instead. As long as they locate it i'm happy.;)

Since we had prepurchased our seats, we just checked in at the airport and used the credit then. They had told me on the phone that I had to use credits at the airport so I didn't bother with online check-in.

Thanks again! I think I will call them tomorrow? Or maybe I should wait until Monday (not the weekend crew) and ask how to use the credits for luggage.

Hey Jacksonsmom, I have a good idea. When you do the online check in, if any of the business class seats are available, it will offer you an upgrade and it is determined on the length of the flight. I think they are around $69. That gives you 2 free bags and 2 cocktails, plus the upgraded snacks! I think you should apply the credit to the upgraded seat and treat yourself! Hope you have a great trip! :wave2: Mousey

I definitely would call on Monday...policies change all the time and sometimes, it is just who you speak to. The worst thing that can happen is that they tell you that you have to use it at the airport...the best is that you can do it all on the phone. It can't hurt so why not try! :goodvibes

Last August I started on-line check in and then called when the luggage part came up. They applied the credit and I continued the check in.

Also, I was unable to use the remaining credit for the flight home if I opted to check my luggage at the Disney resort. To use the credit, I would have had to take the bags with me on ME and check in at the airport.

Thanks again for the tips. That is a good idea about business seats, hmmm...it's just my son and I traveling down (DH is coming on a later flight) that might be a nice treat for us if I can make it happen :thumbsup2

Good to know about checking in at Disney, I was wondering about that!

.

They told me that in order to use the credit for the luggage, I needed to call when I was doing the online check in. So I did. And it worked.

The upgrade on Airtran is nice. Seats are very spacious, plus you get priority boarding and de-planing. That's how we used our credit in December, and it was very easy. A quick call to their customer service at the 24-hour mark and it was done.

So Airtran offers credits for price drops with no fee? I am so disappointed now! I swear I searched for that info on their website and read that any changes were subject to a $75 fee. That's why I bought through Southwest instead for our upcoming trip, even though I really wanted to be able to purchase early seat selection because we will be travelling with small children.

Is there anything I can do about this now?? When is this merger going to be complete so everything is standard across the board... :headache:

many are complaining it getting more difficult to grab the seats @ 24-hr mark now that southwest business select fare customers are flying AT.

I tried for flights in May and was shut out for the first time.
