we are thinking about taking a stroller for getting around airport and the three hour layover in Atlanta, how will this work, we can push it through security then onto the plane? Will it be a checked bag or a carry on? it is not one of those umbrella ones, it is a full size stroller. If it is a checked bag will we have availability to use it at the Atlanta layover?

Yep, you take it through security. You will have to fold it to get it through the X-ray machine (a pain, but it can be done, even with a full-size stroller). When you get to the gate, tell them you have a stroller you need to gate check. They will give you a tag for the stroller and one to keep with you. You fold the stroller and leave it just outside the door of the plane. They will load it last with the rest of the baggage and then bring it up to you when you land. You just have to wait there outside the plane door while they bring it. We do this every trip and it is great. If the baby doesn't want to ride, we pile our carryon bags on it and use it like a baggage cart through the airport. Use it for your layover, and then when you get to your connecting flight, repeat the process once more.

How does this work with Travel System strollers using the infant seat? It can't be folded with the infant seat in place.

Your stroller and carseat is not counted as luggage however if you bring a playpen for your trip it will be considered luggage.

When travelling through security with a travel system all parts must be xrayed. The baby will need to be removed from the car seat so the seat can be put through the xray machine.

When you get to the gate, tell them you have a stroller you need to gate check.

That's very important. Take care of this when you get to the gate, not when they start the boarding procedure.
