Do you think airports can help with the current and probably future situation, whereas we can buy our convenient items at the airport instead of packing them in our checkin luggage? It would make things convenient for those who travel but don't want to worry about packing liquids and combustables in ziplocs and baggies.

They already carry water, snacks and fast food - maybe a large selection of shampoos, conditioners, soaps, washes, toothpaste, liquid medicines, etc?

They already sell the basics... (in most airports)... and i am sure if they would expand their selects it would not include everyones preferred brands and the prices would be nearly double that of a typical store...

Just toss it in the checked bag and be thankful that safety measure are being taken. I'd rather arrive safe and have to *worry* where oh where will i get toothpaste, than have something terrible happen.

While I think that it is too early to assume that today's situation and restrictions will remain in place, I do think that there may be different situations as a result.

If anyone is going to purchase those items at an airport, they would need to do so after their flight lands.

I know that there are many many small airports around North America; my 'home' airport does already have a 7-11 and a pharmacy/drug store in a convenient location (along with a dentist, liquor store, medical clinic, etc etc) Many major airports around the world also have those types of concessions/businesses. Last month when I arrived in Munich I went to the pharmacist across from my arrival gate, then the grocery store, the post office, and the baker all before I left the airport.

But then I think to ORD, one of the busiests airports in the US/world. If I arrive on my usual United flight, there is no drug store/pharmacy in the B/C concourse or baggage claim. The only place to buy those items would be in the newsagent.

Yes but you can't bring any liquids brought in the secure area on board - so those stores are apparently not so "secure".

Unfortunately, as some of DH's fellow travelers learned today, that doesn't hlep those who are going to fly. Several of his fellow travelers wear contact lenses, had their solution confiscated at security, then once they got inside, by the gates, they figured they'd buy more solution or eye drops for the flight (I know how itchy eyes can get on planes). Then-surprise! There's now a second bag search as you get on the airplane, and their newly-bought items got confiscated there.

I also see if these regulations stay, Disney expanding the gift shops to carry more items.

I'm expecting the major drugstore chains to start opening up in airports.

I meant to buy them "after" you land, so someone doesn't have to make a special trip to a store.

That would be a great idea. CVS, Brooks, Walgreen's at the airport. Now that's cool. :thumbsup2

At Chicago's Ohare airport, all those liquid items were ordered off the shelves, they could not sell the toothpaste, deodarants etc... and I dont think there is a place to buy it after getting off the plane at baggage claim area - no stores in the non ticketed areas...

That'd be great! Buy my wine, shampoo & deoderant as I get off the plane! And you know right now they're confiscating enough new stuff to create a store!!! Minimal start-up costs!
Hey - they could use this to offset the cost of the security & pass the savings onto the airline customers!!! :lmao:
