Airport Travel!!! Major Must!!

I know with the travel regualtions its extreamly hard to carry-on, so manay people just check their stuff, think "I won't have to carry anything!" when in reality thats not a smart idea, when going to disney world most people plan to do stuff their verry first day, but what would happen if you check luggage didn't make it down? then would you still have a fun day? do everything you wanted to do? Make sure you have a carry-on, heres a packing list just for your luggage carry-on:
-(1) pair of shorts & tee shirt/ person
-(1) pair of extra shoes (flip-flops/sneakers/crocks) [depedning on what you wear on the plain, make sure you have at least 1 pair of water proof shoes]
-(1) baithing suit/ person
-undergarments/ person
-any toiletries that you can't buy at airport (fit regulation)
-anything else you couldn't live without for a day

I know there is a small chance this will happen, but there still is that chance, and it has happned to us!!!

***Make Sure you do this with connecting flights, those tend to lose things the most***

I usually wear shorts, tanktop and jacket on the plane...and my Mickey Crocs....... So I am usually set for the first day at WDW. If my luggage is delayed, I'm sure I can purchase anything else I may need for a day or so at the store at the resort. My DH freaks out if I pack a bunch of junk in my carry-on...since one time he was carrying it for me and got picked for the random security screening, and had no clue what I had packed in the bag.

One thing to be sure to carry on would be prescription meds.

My cousin recently came to visit from another state, and packed her prescription meds in her checked bag. Well, of course, the airline lost her bag and she was without her crucial medication the first night (and well into the next day). She was able to call Walgreens and ask them to do a little "emergency" supply for her for a couple of days (they call it a "vacation override"), since she had gotten her prescriptions there -- but what if the pharmacy wasn't so easily accessible? Plus, it was a big hassle to get them - we had to locate a 24-hour Walgreens and go there at 11:30 at night.

I couldn't believe that, in this day and age, anyone would be foolish enough not to carry their prescriptions with them. To me, that would be like packing your money or credit cards in your checked luggage!

This idea is for your checked luggage. My husband and I split our stuff into two bags so we each had several outfits in each bag. I am sure glad we did that because his bag got lost and we did not receive it until late the next day.

Heh! I had my luggage not make it down this past September. I was down for some DIS friends wedding and my bag didn't arrive. Since I did ME I had no car. I was just down for a few days and I did carry on my dress pants and jacket. The rest was in the bag...a small bag I could have carried on. I found you can cloth yourself in Mickey from head to toe (almost) and still be quite presentable. Amost...mens underwear is a bit hard to come by in the World unless you go the boxer route! Mens dress shoes are also not around! I did some what I had in the evenings and my, then DGF (now DW), brought me some undies after a couple days.

I do pretty much go with what comes my way and had no problems enjoying my stay anyway. I have, however, taken to carrying some stuff in my carry on (if I don't take everything) now, but over all, i don't worry about it much. I have traveled many times, many places, and this was the first time my stuff went missing on the way to a location. Maybe I've just been lucky. I've had stuff delayed coming back but I'm not overly concerned with that.

Oh...and my bag did show up...1 1/2 hours before leaving to come home. At least I had it to take back with me...and yes, I checked it.

Also put a copy of contact information in your luggage in the event it is lost. A copy of your flights is helpful also. That way they can get in touch with you to deliver your lost luggage.

Make sure when the agent tags your luggage it has been done correctly. Also make sure you get to the airport in plenty of time for them to load your luggage.

I have a question along those lines: Do the Disney resorts supply beach towels or should that be on the carryon if we're planning to hit the pool while we wait for our room?

WDW provides towels at the pools. (the deluxes do...I don't remember about the values...and have no idea about the moderates) They are not beach towels, just "bath" towels.

We usually do the pool and DTD the first day so I am just sure we have everything we need for swimming and I am happy with that. I am not going to stress my self out with the "what if" scenero, I can always purchace something if my luggage does not get there on time.

we each have 1 swimsuit and 1 pr flipflops in the small backpack that each of us check. I carry all of the tickets on me.
but for checked luggage..............
try my solution if you check more than 1 bag!
we check 5 suitcases (1 for each of us) --we stay 10 days.
In each suitcase, I will pack at least 2 outfits per person and also divide up
toiletries, shoes, etc.
worst case scenerio, only 1 in 5 bags won't make it if we are unlucky....and the missing bag would most probably show up within 2 days. given those odds, we would still be set with clothes for 8 days and have at least an extra pair of shoes besides the ones we are wearing and the flip flops we have carried on!

So, to summarize:
Your carry-on should contain:
- Medications
- Travel documents
- 'Valuables' (electronics, jewelry, etc)
- Whatever items you will need for the first 24 hours at your destination.

If you have the option, your checked luggage should contain "cross-packed" clothing, in case one bag gets misdirected so everyone will have something to change into.

And just to be safe, your carry-on for your return trip should contain the same items - in case you get stranded at your departure airport or an interim location, but your checked luggage gets to go all the way home Hey, it happens!

Liquids and gels:

3oz or less, One, 1-quart clear ziplock bag.

And, check the weight of those checked bags! Many airlines are really picky these days and some are charging now for a second checked bag.

Psst! Little-known, but legitimate, secret: the actual liquids/gels limit is 3.4 ounces! The United States is one of the VERY few countries that does not use the metric system; since most other countries do, the actual size limit is 100 milliliters which is equivalent to 3.4 ounces.

Why is this important? Well, it is to me because a while back, Garnier had a special offer attached to their shampoo and conditioner bottles: a full-size shampoo came with a free 100 ml conditioner, and vice versa. At least, the one store I was in did, until I bought them all

And in addition to the weight, airlines also charge for oversize luggage; plus, if your oversize luggage is also over the weight limit, you get charged for BOTH conditions!
