airport transportation

Do you think this is much more than a taxi would cost?? I am trying to decide if it is worth the extra cost to hire Ed or just go with a taxi for 2 ppl. No grocery stop needed.

Tips are usually 10-20% of the total, aren't they? and would it be tacky to give him half at the start and half at the return to the airport??

I was thinking perhaps $10 tip, but now I read someone said 20%, so that would make it double.... :confused3 I am undecided as to the best option for the 2 of us for this part of our trip!

Here's a link to the Mears taxi fare estimator Taxi Fare Estimator. I plugged in your destinations & based on the estimator it looks like a taxi would be around $65 + tip, so that would be the cheaper option, especially if you don't need a grocery stop.

We usually tip 20% for car service. That's the amount I've seen recommended most often, but I think it depends on the service you receive too.

We give half the tip at the start & half at the return to the airport. I've read many posts of others doing the same thing, so I don't think there's anything wrong with that. None of our drivers have ever seemed to have a problem with that.

Hope you have a great trip!

Thank you so much for your link and your reply :goodvibes Funnily enough, I just recieved an e-mail from Ed informing me that he had mistakenly mis-quoted me.... My proper quote should have been for $85.00

I think that we will hire him for the transportation needs of my trip. It is not much more than a taxi, and this way the price is set (not dependant on traffic/other variables as a taxi would be)

Also, the service is personal and you have been very satisfied with Ed, (Thanks for the recommendation :thumbsup2) so we can trust that it is a professional service. I am just awaiting confirmation that he can reserve us a spot for the days we need.

I am getting excited as our trip is exactly 2 months away....I know that time will fly fast now! The only time I cringe is on very, very hot days and I am reminded that I will be melting in the August Florida sun!!! Oh well, a day on vacation is better than hum drum at home! :)

Ed's picking us up from the airport to take us to RPR tomorrow morning . He is a super nice guy, very professional, & his Suburban is super clean. I don't think you'll regret your decision. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Have a super fun trip!! and say hello to him for me I am looking forward to meeting him! (My name is Marie and I am coming in August from Alberta, Canada...I just contacted him today, so he should know who you're talking about ;) ) and let him know it is your glowing recommendation that persuaded me to take a chance on his service! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Thanks again for the recommendation, it is so nice to know others are happy with the service :goodvibes
Can't wait to hear about your trip when you get back!

Just booked Ed K, $90 RT. We are about 2 weeks away from the trip, so I can report back when we return July 2nd. Thanks for the help.

Everything went as planned, all went well. Ed was easy to communicate and work with and is genuinely nice guy. We were not initially going to do market stop, but that was worth it to pick up sandwiches first day (plus some snacks, water & drink boxes). Going from and returning to airport was a breeze.

Can you tell us what grocery store Ed stopped at for you? We are looking forward to meeting a fellow cat-person in exactly one week :)

Don't know what area, but it was a Publix. Funny you mention cats, we were in Ed's car when the person watching our pets texted that our kitten came back home (after making a run for it earlier in the week).

Has anybody every used *********** Transportation from MCO to RPH? We booked a roundtrip w/grocery stop for our trip in mid-july. Any reviews or comments on them? Thanks!

Just another price for comparison. I booked a Mears Towncar round trip MCO/PBH and it is $111.00 which includes tip. I have tried other companies but Mears has always been the best.

Our trip was a few weeks ago. Ed was great! He met us at the airport and helped with the luggage. There were 5 of us, and we had 9 checked bags (plus our personal carryons). His car fit everything perfectly & comfortably. We stopped at a Publix for groceries. He had great stories for us and he was fun to talk to.

I highly recommend him!

Same here! Ed picked me up at MCO August 29th and then dropped me back off Sept 4th. He was great!

:cool1: So great to hear the glowing recommendations and satisfied customers of ED!
We had to postpone our August trip...but thankfully, all is back on again and Ed is booked to pick us up from the POLY in February for our Universal portion of our trip and deliver us to the airport on our departure morning. I think his prices are reasonable and fair, and I am really looking forward to meeting him and experiencing personal towncar service! :goodvibes I am sure our trip will be here before we know it! :)

Personally..

We walked off the airplane, grabbed our bags and walked out the ground transportion door. Walked to the first cab stand and asked to go to US - Hard Rock.. They said.. $35-$40.. they were right on, with tip I paid $48..

When we were ready to go back to airport, asked bellhop guy, he called us a cab.. got the same service on the way back to airport only in minivan instead of towncar.. (4 of us)... about the same price..

Point being.. we didn't "pre-book" anything and it worked out great!! and about the same price!! but was MUCH FASTER and didn't require rushing around to meet a schedule!!

I e-mailed Ed about a month ago regarding our trip in December, but I never heard back from him. Now I'm leaning towards just going the "cab at the airport" route. With six of us, though, we'd need a minivan cab. Does anyone know if there are minivans at the airport, or do you need to call for one? TIA.

We were in a minivan cab last time (June) and there were just two of us, so they do show up at the airport. I don't know how frequently or how many there are, but if there aren't any there when you arrive I'm sure they would call for one for you.

That happened to me the first time I e-mailed him too! somehow the message got lost in transit. Just e-mail him back again with a request for a quote....explain that you hadn't heard anything yet. I have found him very prompt at getting back to me...usually the same day, so try again if you are still interested. His quoted rate for me was very reasonable ($85) for WDW >> UNIVERSAL >> MCO. I trust Ed, especially from all the wonderful reviews I've read of others who have really had super service from him! :goodvibes
I also think it will be nice to have a comfy vehicle, and personal service...much nicer than hailing a cab...also my price is set and I know it won't change by meters/traffic conditions/driver decision in choosing the "most economical route" :)

What kind of car does Ed use to pick up 5 people? Been leaning towards getting a limo just for the added fun. The girls have never ridden in one and something just sounds fun pulling up to HRH in a limo. Thanks!

Thanks to the posts here, I contacted Ed this morning about our trip in Dec. He quoted me $90 and said we were good to go! This is cheaper than the shuttle from MCO to RPR and back, so I'm happy as can be and so thankful for all the wonderful information you guys share. I will make sure to do the same as I learn more.:thumbsup2

We did the exact same thing last summer for 4 ppl and it worked out just fine too. No problems with the taxi's.
