Airport tram?

My DME booklet makes references to "disembarking" the airport tram when we arrive at MCO. What is this? I've never flown before so is this something I have to look for? It says something about taking the airport tram to the main building...I thought we were already going to be at the main building. I'm confused. I hope I don't sound dumb, but what exactly is this airport tram? Is it some type of hallway we walk through? Is it like a shuttle bus? If it is, do we HAVE to take it? We're flying SWA. Somebody please explain. I'm so clueless.

MCO is arranged in 5 buildings - one is the main terminal, the landside building, and the other 4 are airside buildings with the actual gates. To get to and from the airside buildings, you take a tram of sorts; it's really a small monorail.

I love flying into and out of MCO, partly because of these cool little monorails.

To see a little better, look at the terminal layout on the MCO home page:

And look at the Arrivals Walkthrough page, which has lots of pics of the actual terminal, gates, and monorails:

MCO is set up as one Main Building (Check in Counters, etc.) and 4 satalite buildings, which contain the gates. When you exit the aircraft, you will proceed toward the Main Building/Ground Transportation signs. This will take you to a tram, which then drops you off inside the main termainal building. You will then see the DME people standing with mickey hands and signs....

Yes you have to take the tram. I always looked at the ride as the start of my vacation since you feel like you are on the monorail.

Me too! The narrator even sounds like the guy from the monorail!
