I am hoping that someone can answer this for me. My family and I are going to arrive in Orlando the day before our Disney Cruise. We are going to stay at the Airport Hyatt. We want to go right to WDW Magic Kingdom and spend some time there since it will be our only day in Orlando. I called the Hyatt and they do not have a shuttle or any hotel transportation to any of the parks which seems odd... Does anyone know if this is correct info? If so how should I get there and back? Is this going to cost more $ than it's worth? I hesitate to get dropped off in a city as a tourist and have to get a taxi back... Any advice?

Hyatt doesn't have a shuttle to WDW. you could rent a car for the day, or take a town car, $$ and arrange to have them pick you up at a designated time. Other than that, you're at the mercy of Mears and/or public transportation. With Mears, though, I'm not sure how you would get there & back and they usually just go to the resorts/hotels

Hyatt does not have any type of free transport to WDW. I don't like the Hyatt at the Airport and this is another reason why not to book with them. If you can cancell without a penality book at either a Disney value resort, about the same room as you get with Hyatt, or one of the close hotels (I would suggest the Buena Vista Suites because they have transportation to WDW and a free breakfast and the rooms are good sized suites, see the discount add on this web site). Take Mears or one of the others from the airport when you arrive.

I would keep the reservation with the Hyatt, assuming you have transfers booked thru DCL or another, and rent a car for the day to go to the park. You could probably get a compact car for around $30. and drive to MK in about 20-25 minutes. This way you can also stop and pick up drinks to take with you onboard and any last minutes items you make have forgotten.

If you think you are going to want to rent a car it is smart to reserve one in advance. Usually you can reserve one for a certain price and if you do not need it there is no charge for cancelling. If you go without a car reserved they can charge pretty much whatever they want to for the rental fee, because you are at their mercy then. If you have a price in advance it is usually cheaper.
Most of the car rental places have shuttle buses to their lots which tend to work quite quickly and efficiently.

ok
first why r stayying at the airport hyatt ???
why not just stay at WDW?? and take either a town car or a van
from airport to witch ever resort u plan to stay at on Disney property... then catch the bus to the Port from Walt Disney World
If u have Disney transportation booked for the cruise already
I know that the bus will pick u up at the Swan and Dolphin
or the Beach club or several others, check with Dcl for pick up locations at the world

Here is what i would do Cancel res at Hyatt ..
Book one at Disney and spend night there ......
How many people in your party depends on alot of options
if there is 4 I would get a town car to pick up at airport and take to Disney resort. I know that Tiffany town car charges 90.00 round trip.
stay at hotel that has Disney cruise line Bus pickup ......

Thanks so much for your feedback. You all really have me thinking now. I am going to call and see if my DCL bus ride can be from a resort hotel rather than the airport. If so - I may still be able to switch to a WDW hotel Originally I did not do this because historically the parks close early in Jan and I didn't think we would be able to go. Now that it is open late on the date we are in town this is all falling into place!!

RKB........I was planning on flying in the night before our cruise last Nov. which was a Friday. (We fly out of chicago and don't want to risk a delay due to weather) I called the hotel by port and got a price, then there was the transportation issue, then the kids wanted to go to WDW, transportation issues again. I ended up calling DCL booking Thurs. and Friday at POR. My airfare was 500.00 less to fly on Thursday than Friday and return on Saturday(the following week). Park hoppers and hotel and transportation was included for all 4 of us. The cost was about 700.00. Subtract the difference in air fare 500.00 the hotel 119.00 and the transportation??40.00 each way??? Our two day stay is the same price and DCL takes care of everything. Bag handling transfers and all. Just give them your flight numbers and you are done......Good luck!!!

Jeannie - I believe we are on the same cruise 1-3-04. I am in the process of switching to a WDW and going to the Magic Kingdom for a day of fun before the cruise.

Thanks everyone for your advice!!
