Hello, We are leaving on our florida vacation in 10 days to do disney and sea world. My husband hates , hates to fly. :scared1:
So this morning I turn on the t.v. in Boston to see that they are having complete pat downs at logan and las vegas airports.
I quickly changed the channel because I dont want to listen to my hubby complain and threaten to cancel trip for the next 10 days.
Can anyone tell me what to expect. Do they only pat you down if you are pulled aside or do they pat everyone down. Help:confused3 Thank you so much , going to hide the remote now. LOL

Based on the news report that I saw this morning (here in Maine) the pat downs occur only when a person refuses to go through the body scanners. This actually has been going on for a long time. The new thing is that they are now allowed to pat you down with the palm of their hand where previously they had to do the pat down with the back of their hand.

Your husband sounds like my husband. My husband has a serious problem with being treated like a criminal or being treated like he is guilty of something just because he bought a plane ticket. My problem is that my husband doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut and will call the TSA agents Russian names -- comrade, tvarish, etc. which often doesn't go over very well. <sigh>

Thank you so much for your quick response. Not only does my husband hate to fly then to have to deal with this to. I know it is for everyones security but my husband is like yours. He will probaly be arrested for shooting his mouth off:eek: So hopefully will all go through the body scanners and keep our mouths shut.:worship:

As already noted....if you choose not to go through the 'regular' security line, with those new scanners, then you will be forced to go through a pat-down..your choice, or rather, your dh's choice.
I have done the new scanner..it's a none issue. It just isn't that big a deal. I have never had a rude TSA person, but I allow them to do their job, with no smart-mouth from me. Yes, they do have a sense of humor but you have to be careful where you choose to make jokes.

And, not every security point at Logan has that new scanner. I chose the line that had it. You should be able to choose a different line...but, perhaps not anymore. I'm just not 100% sure on that one.
But again, it's just not that big a deal. If you, or a family member, don't like the security measures at an airport, you can choose to not fly. But, if you want to fly, you do have to put up with those security measures....politely.

I totally agree with you, I was just asking because I don't think my husband would appreciate being patted down. Going through scanners to me is no big deal. I flew last year and I just wanted to see if things have changed much.

And to elaborate further on that particular news story, which I also watched...the news wasn't about everyone getting patdowns..it was about the change of hand position for any patdowns. Patdowns, when done, were done with the back of the hand. Now the change is to the palm of the hand.
And again....pat downs are not happening to everyone. Only those that refuse other types of security measures or that had something happen to necessitate the patdowns....Good example...one year we got to fly back to FtLauderdale rather than land at our chosen airport. So, we flew from FtL to Philly (Not TF Green due to a snow issue), got sent back to FtL and had to fly out again, to TF Green, first thing in the morning. Since we had flown so many times in a 24 hr period, we all had to be patted down...every single person that had had to fly back to FtL the day before. So, sometimes you just have to go with the flow.
