Well I have attempted to stay focused on plan and work out - but always fall off the wagon. Recently was doing wonderful, then an illness set me right back to square ONE. I read in a magazine and heard on the radio about a larger woman who was asked to get off the plane due to her size. I have nightmares about this - and do you think I can focus on weight loss - no - you would think I would be so focused - maybe I am over focused - I so want to succeed -

Every day I log my food going to work with me - as soon as I get home from work - I am rushed to get things done and grab food on the run - and don't get on the Gazelle -

any and all feed back greatly appreciated!

The test is you have to be able to buckle in. They do have belt extenders, but if you can't buckle with the extender, you have to purchase a 2nd seat if you want to fly. I think this is fair... you do have to consider the confined space you're in and be considerate of those around you.

Also, keep in mind that 1st Class seats are larger than coach.

SW is well known for this. They won't have people get off, but purchase another seat. It isn't for people who are moderately overweight- or even quite a bit overweight. It would be to the extreme. I wouldn't let it ruin travel for you.
Basically you have to be able to buckle and put the armrests all the way down on both sides. You can use the extender. Some airlines are more lenient then others. On a flight we had recently my MIL and her row mate (they didn't now each other) could not fit the armrest down between them. He went at least 350-400 and shes about 300 (5'2''). This was on Jetblue and the stewardess didn't say anything though. Maybe because they were infringing on each others space.
I've never had a problem on SW or any airline. I currently am in a sz 24 and hoping to be down a few by our next trip. Nonetheless, I too worry about it-- and it' yet to be a problem. I've yet to need the extenders- so I think I'll be fine.

yes I know about extenders - 4 years ago - I had just had surgery for colon and had staples - I got an extender and PILLOW to tuck myself in - since then though I have gained - and have needed the extender for one extra inch - I hope to get under that weight so as not to need the extender -

I got up today with a new motivation - so lets hope - will follow WW plan and attempt to not get the "feeling ill and needing comfort food" to get in my way - I think that is my discouragement - I had been going down little by little then the illness took me back to a weight gain......

:sad2: but now lets hope I stay focused

yes we are flying "song" or "delta" which ever one is the correct one now - I flew Delta in June and used the extension once - I am a size 24-26 and am attempting to lose - but the SW suit was highly reported here in NH due to the woman being from NH - so it just put that shiver in me -

My sister and I are attempting to be diet buddies - but she is 1300 miles away - ehehe

thanks for all your great words of support

I'm with you on this! I just posted about this on the Transportation Board.

That's one of my biggest fears about flying on our upcoming trip. I'm getting myself so nervous about it that I'm not even sure I want to go. :( I hadn't thought it would be a problem because DH and I are going with two younger kids, but according to the airline's website (this is Southwest), it doesn't matter if you're sitting with a child or not.

What's worse for me is, if I'd known about this when I bought the tickets, I would have purchased two for myself. Now, though, the deal has passed and I'll have to pay a whole lot more. :headache:

When I flew the last couple of years I was around a size 30 (roughly, depending on the clothing). I could just fit in the seat with the belt and the armrests down. I was much more comfortable in an aisle seat because I could move myself more toward the isle and tuck my arms in when the stewardess was walking up and down the isle and then could put them out when they weren't. The only problem I've run in to was being able to put the tray down, couldn't do that until this year. I'm now down to a 18/20 in pants and 22/24 in shirts and it was so much more comfortable. But I had never had a problem with anyone complaining or needing an extender. When I put the belt on I pull it all the way out and then tighten it if I can. My "gut" is my problem area big time.

We flew Southwest this past December and my husband and dad, who are larger in the stomach area, didn't have any problems either.

Good luck!
