Southwest was nice enough to send me 4 free drink vouchers for my upcoming flight. I've never actually drank on a plane, and it seems intriguing.

One little hurdle: My flight is at 6:55am. I have a small problem with the concept of getting drunk before suppertime, however I'll technically be on vacation so technically those rules don't technically apply.

Do they serve mimosas on airplanes? I'm thinking no.

When they serve the drinks, do you get them in a glass or do they just give you the small mini-bottles? If they give the bottles, then I'd rather just save them for later in the vacation.

Any other suggestions?

Oh come on, I KNOW there are people here who drink on airplanes. Somebody's got to know what they serve and whether or not I can get the bottle "to go" !!

For the life of me I can't remember if they actually open the little bottles for you or not. I know beer cans are opened by the FA.

Want me to call Southwest and ask them? I'll do it for you :)

I drink on planes, but on SW I have only ordered beer which is open.

On Delta they mix my drinks.

Sorry I can't provide more info.

I called SW and the guy said they have to serve you the drinks. They can't just give you the little bottle.

My experience over the last few years is a mix...about half the time they make the drink for you and the other half they give you the bottle. Sometimes the seal is broken on the bottle and sometimes it is not. Technically of course.:thumbsup2

Well shoot. Should make for an interesting start to the trip!

I just flew United from Chicago to Phila a couple days ago and the guy next to me ordered a rum and coke and I can tell you that the FA did not open anything for him. He poured his own soda as well as his own little bottle of Bacardi rum. What I won't tell you is how his breath stunk afterwards :scared:

On my November trip on SW they handed me the little bottle of rum and poured the coke.

FAs on Southwest have told me it's some rule that they have to open the bottle for you.
My personal airplane free drink breakfast of champions --> coffee w/Baileys.

Can you use the drink coupons for your flight home?

Another idea, do you like bloody marys? I think that is vodka and tomato juice. I doubt they will have the cerery though;)

I don't do coffee.

My early morning choice

Orange juice and vodka!:cool1: Remember "It's five o'clock somewhere"

oh, there certainly are people who drink on airplanes... I just got off a 5 hour flight, seated in F next to a middle aged woman who had waaaay too much wine (I don't know why they kept serving her) About 4 hours into the flight I awoke to find her massaging me!!! EEEK!!! I have a 'no touch' rule and that was definitely violating it!

I had to ask her three times not to touch me

I have no idea if they open bottles, but at Christmas I noticed that my parents have a large basket of about 60 miniature bottles, so I assume that Lufthansa at least does not open the bottles

She was concerned for your safety. Long flights like that are notorious for causing DVT. She was probably just trying to prevent them.

:rotfl2: Well, I suppose that is better than what I was thinking

Holy cow, I'd be so freaked out if I woke up with a stranger massaging me! I have that "no touch" rule too, although I call it "don't invade my personal space with anything you expect to keep."

Thanks for all the suggestions, keep 'em coming!

I was planning on using 2 drink coupons on each flight - but the flight home is in the evening so the drink choice doesn't bother me. I'm just not much of a morning drinker. Unless I'm still up from the night before, but I haven't been able to do that in years. :(

I'm not a coffee drinker but the Bailey's sounds good.

Check-in should be fun!

When you order a drink on SWA ask to mix it yourself and they will bring you it all seperate. That way you can control how strong your drink is. They serve the drinks in those little glasses and they can be very strong.

The top should be off the bottle because you are not allowed to take the bottles off the plane with you. Most Flight Attendants take the top off the bottle but some do not. They can get fined if you take the bottles with you. It is just like the bar you can't take the drink with you.
